My whole point is that it would be practical. If one is $350 and the other is $1000, the markets will be different and Cosina makes money on each one sold anyway.

From this list, I chose the 28/2 as I could see myself using that if I came upon the coin to do so. However I'd far rather see see a nice new collapsible Tessar 50/3.5 (!) instead.
This was, and remains, one of the greatest lens designs in photographic history and has a distinctive look unlike any other design. The 3.5 version is, historically, noticeably better than the 2.8 so I'd rather have it over the 1/2 stop of speed. Currently I am not aware of anyone making this classic design for our cameras - and yes, that includes the modern 50/2.8 Elmar. The Elmar is not quite a Tessar - that positioning of the aperture diaphragm really does have an impact on the overall drawing of the lens. This is a good thing for both Lieca and Zeiss fans as it gives both a distinctive look.

With modern glasses and computing power, surely they could make an f2.8 Tessar as good as a f3.5. Also with the design of the zm lens, the only real way to get it shorter (than the current f2.8 35mm) would be to reduce the focusing scale to read just in 'ft' or 'm', and it would most likely be the 'm' that would be on the scale.

I would wish a compact 2.8/28mm like the current Leica Elmarit Asph and a compact 2.8/85mm all with the same filter thread. That would make a nice travel outfit.

I love my Tri Elmar and F4 is OK but If they could make a 35 50 90 Tri Elmar I think it could be a wonderful outdoor lens.

Poll nearly over, and it looks like a f1.4 35mm first and a f1.2 50mm second. Now all we need is for Zeiss to release a 25-28-35-50 f4.5 quad focal length lens -at a quad focal length price:bang:
There seems to be some support for dinky lens, which I think the VC line covers. Looking at the hood mounting system and the need to the ZM line opically better than the VC line, the ZM lens will not be as compact as the VC lens. Look at the ZM f2.8 35mm (200g) and the VC f1.4 35mm (200g).
Zeiss could come out with a dinky f2.8 50mm (same weight and size as the f2.8 35mm, or smaller
-if it was a stellar performer (and it would have to be) would it sell well?

I do wonder if they recomputed the 85/2 Sonnar as a 85/2.8 how much that would change everything? Even an 85/3.5 might well be interesting if everything other than the speed were glorious & the price were significantly less...
