Just wanted to clarify that if I don't check "remember me" it seems as if there is a time out and I must login again.

If there were anything wrong with the forum, many people would be reporting problems. That's not happening.
Whatever is causing your particular log on problems is not the server and is most likely probably between your computer -- including browser, cache, cookies, internet security, and your IP.

All well and good I am sure. Except that its not just happening to me and a number of other people here have reported the same problem so to take issue with your argument that "That's not happening." I have to point out that it IS happening as evidenced by a number of posts suggesting that there is an issue.
Not only that , this problem is occurring to me on more than one machine - its happening on two different machines using two different browsers with two different domains / networks and entirely different ISPs.
Moreover this never used to happen. Both myself and a number of other respondents to this thread indicate its something that has started relatively recently. And I can say with all honesty that this does not happen to me with any other sites or forums. This clearly suggests to me its not something that is caused at my end - or at least not entirely. There is something about your site that is contributing and I have to say again - it is not normal behaviour to have to log on a half a dozen times to make one posting and one edit! No matter what you may say.
Please remember that I am not an IT technician, I am a person coming here because of a shared interest in photography. I have come here for help, not to be dismissed out of hand with a claim that its someone else's problem. If you are going to contribute to this thread, please make some constructive suggestions about how to fix it if you are so sure its not your problem.

same problem here. I got used to copy my posts from "reply to thread" window just before posting, because there are chances when I hit "Submit reply", I get "not logged in" message and then my post gets lost.

Same issue here. Firefox on Mac.
I had to log in again, to be able to post this.

There do seem to be intermittent cookie-related problems. I don't get logged off, but the "you last visited:" counter gets reset arbitrarily during my sessions. Not the end of the world but it is inconvenient to lose your history in mid-session.

I have been getting the same problem for some weeks, and it didn't used to happen. I have been using Firefox on WXP on the same computer and the same ISP for some years
it's not a server problem. the session data is stored and running its course. it sounds like a cookie issue with the browser. just for fun download a different browser and see if the problem persists.

I already have. IE and Firefox. Plus it also does it on my computer at work as well as my PC at home!! So it is not an isolated thing. And I repeat yet again that this does not happen with any other site or forum ONLY YOURS! So how can it just be a browser issue. If it were this would occur at every site one would think. Logically it has to do with something about your mode of authentication. Or at least this must be a contributing factor. And I repeat this has only happened in recent weeks or months - as other people report. I for one have changed nothing about my security settings in this time.
And I have checked and confirmed that my system IS set to accept cookies and retain them forever! Of course I delete them manually using a utility. And there are no security settings that would seem to be the problem. My browser is even set to remember passwords from this site. So there is certainly nothing obvious that I can point to. at this end.
And yet again as I try to post this it has signed me off forcing me to copy this text, go to another page log in paste the text and retry. And when I come to edit this post same same. Look it appears to be a time related thing - the longer the delay in completing a post the greater the chance you will be logged off. Think it thru logically - isnt it more logical that its something to do with sessions timing out. After all when I am typing my post my machine is not doing anything associated with your site - but when I come to send the message back presumably there is some info from a cookie lodged last time my machine spoke to your server to confirm that this message is part of an authenticated session. Its what your server does then with that info that appears to be problematic.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.10 with Windows XP Sp3, and have encountered zero problems using RFF or any web site.

I believe that is how vBulletin fora are supposed to work.Okay, I've figured out what cures it for me.
If I check the 'remember me' box at login, everything works. I stay logged in, I can post comments on ads, etc, etc, etc. If I don't check the 'remember me' box, I have to log in to every subsequent page (even if in the same window) and even if logged in on the specific ad page, I cannot post comments. Checking the 'remember me' box at login clears this fault. ...

I am experiencing exactly the same problem and have been for a while now.

Me too. RFF is the only site with this problem.

I'm running FF on both XP and Mac at home, no troubles.
Running IE7 at work (bad network management, notoriously slow) but still works.
Using the Remember Me tick box logges me in automatically, never have expired sessions.
Starting a thread like this might be the best solution, it gives moderators and the DB administrator sufficient input to figure things out.
But: this might also be a problem caused by interrupted internet services from your provider, although in that case it should appear on more forums for you.

Checked the remember me box and that still did not cure the problem.
