The good of the violin
This photo by the photographer Marcos Tristao, 18.10.2009, was one of the most poignant images that I have seen in recent times.
The boy who cries in the photo is Diego Frazão Torquato, who played the violin in the Orchestra of the AfroReggae. The occasion was the burial of this social project coordinator, Evandro João Silva, murdered in Rio de Janeiro in October last year.
Diego contracted meningitis at the age of four, compounded by pneumonia, and stayed with memory difficulties. Still, learned the violin, which he played with emotion higher than technique. Diego, born and raised in the favela of Parada de Lucas, dreamed that the violin would know the world.
There was not time. Diego died yesterday, aged 12 years, victim of leukemia. As "doom pouca é bobagem", "her mother 37 years fighting a brain tumor.
Breathe deep.
Peace for who will. Strength for those who stay.
