IIRC in 2001 I was using the Nikon 8008s and a complement of Nikkor lenses.
I really enjoyed shooting with it. Now when I load it up and fire the shutter which
sounds like a cannon going off I wonder what it was that I liked then. But I still have
some good representative shot from that era.

Nikon F100 closely followed by an F5. I remember a 20-35 f2.8 and a 35-70 f2.8 also. I guess I hadn't discovered the simplicity of primes at this point, that would have been 2003 with a Leica M6 and 35mm f2 ASPH...

Same as today - Olympus OM1/OM4 and Minolta Autocord. I have added a Linhof Technikardan 4x5 on the analog side and Fuji XE2/XT2 on the digital side.

Back in 2001 I shot a Minolta Dynax 7000 with 35-70mm AF zoom lens.
Got me some very decent pictures from that too, even though it was plastic-fantastic all the way

Around that time I bought a Minolta 404si and kit lens. I took it on holiday and shot my first and last roll of Kodachrome. It was a plastic fantastic beast with noisy AF, but looking at those chromes today you can see it had an excellent meter and the kit lens wasn't half bad.

Not long after I bought a digital Minolta camera, then a Nikon D70, and so began my disinterest in photography.

It is understandable for a European to have that opinion.

2001 forever changed our country and it is indeed significant to every American.

I think Godfrey did a good job of summing it up for those in need of a short hand explanation.

Now back to cameras!

It wasn't until the end of 2002 that I got my first digital camera, the Canon S45. Prior to that, it was the family Nikon L35AD 35mm f2.8 film camera.

In the late 90's I was able to play with a few of the digital cameras of that time, like the Sony Mavica which took floppy discs, but I never bought one, thank goodness.

I was using a pair of Olympus OM-4T bodies while working as a contract news photographer for a small Florida weekly. The following year I sold my Oly gear (still miss the metering system of the OM-4 cameras) and shifted to Nikon F100 bodies for the autofocus capabilty.
