I had to really think about this. Mostly because the memory isn't what it used to be 😉
In 2001, I was all film all the time. Primary shooter was a Nikon FE-2 with motor drive. Zooms fell way short of my standards, but I used them because of budget. I had a mix of Tamron and Nikkor zooms and primes. My "best" lens for Nikon at that time was my 105/2.5 Nikkor.
I also used rangefinders in 2001. Mostly because the lenses blew me away. My Hi-Matic-E truly surprised me when I saw the results. My Canon QL-17 was nice too, but I think the Hi-Matic had a better lens. I also had a Leica IIIa and Canon 50/1.8, but I seem to have preferred using the "automatic" cameras then.
I had other cameras then too. I've always had a "collection" so there were others in the mix during 2001. So many I can't recall them all. But no digital yet. First digital came along around 2004/5 with a P+S.
