what's in your bag?

Just be sure to pull those out of your bag before you go through security at the airport, or else someone else
will get to drink that whiskey!

Stu: How tightly-packed is the Budgee Smuggler with all that kit in there? I've been looking at the 15 Love, but maybe that's overkill...

It fits.

The configuration goes: Main body is divided into three sections with those velco dividers, right hand side for a Bessa-R with 35/50mm lens (remembering that I own a Pancake and my 'cron collapses), the left hand side is big enough for a Canonet. In the middle I put my flash, two lenses in protective softee pouches, bean bag frog and cigar. The storage flap above the main compartment holds the cable release and cleaning gear. The front pocket holds the film, filters, lens hods, swiss army knife, tripod mounts and spare batteries.

My wife and children and I are leaving tomorrow for a 3 day visit with my parents, 4 hours drive away. I'm packing my camera bag and thought I'd show you what's in it. What does your camera bag carry when you go off on a few day's trip?

For a few days, numerous SLR bodies & lenses. Color, B/W & B/W infrared. Popper (flash) & tripod. For just a day of street shooting, SLR with 28-90 & Neopan 400, or just the Viv ES or Oly RC, loaded with Neopan 400.

Joe, just perused your gallery for the first time. Thanks! Some very nice snaps in there.

Permanently in my bag:
- Hipflask of Laphroaig single malt whiskey

Hmmm... good idea. Only problem is, "Can I fit a hip flask in an already full Budgie Smuggler?"

I know you can get lager can add-ons from Crumpler. Does Laphroaig come in a can? Or did those ozzies design it for XXXX and Fosters, but that wouldn't surprise me

Photography is a serious issue with some of us here. We don't joke about it, and we certainly don't mix it with drinking. You should be ashamed of yourself!

Well, don't forget that some people need a little alcohol to steady their hand so that they can
shoot :D

Manolo,
Please tell me there is a piece of foam between the M2 and Bessa in the central compartment of your bag!

Hey:)

My RF(ish) kit for a longer trip would probably consist of:

Bessa L c/w CV 21/4.0
Bessa R2
Leica M2
CV 28/1.9 Ultron
CV 35/2.5 Classic
CV 50/1.5 Nokton
CV 90/3.5 APO Lanthar
CV 15/4.5 (maybe, at a squeeze)

Here's a couple of pics

It depends. . . . usually 1 or 2 below or both

option 1
Lowe backpack
2 canon slr bodies
QL-17 III
420ex flash
18mm
50mm
28-105mm
100-300mm
misc filters, cords
tripod

option 2
small bag
Bessa R
Zorki 4
25mm CV Skopar
35mm CV Ultron
50mm J8
90mm Elmar

Option 3
Yashcamat EM
Flash bracket & flash

SRMC

Inside a smallish Tamrac bag the RF kit:

Bessas R and L, Skopars 35/2.5 and 25/4, Yashica GSN for its fast 1.7 lens. Six rolls film, 3 Fuji Superia 400, 3 36 exp. Tri-X hand rolls (plus film in each camera). No filters for Bessas because I haven't been able to find any yet in that size.

Inside a larger Tamrac bag, the SLR kit:

Home made bean bag covered in suede leather. Two black Spotmatic SP bodies, Super Takumar lenses 28/3.5, 50/1.4, 100/2.8, 135/2.5, Vivitar Series 1 200/3.5. Filters. Six rolls assorted film. (If I am photographing in the desert along the US/Mexico border, .357 Taurus 7 shot revolver, 2" bbl. inside-the-belt holster. It is dangerous down there. Otherwise never carry it.)

Inside left front jeans pocket: Swiss Army knife.

In trunk of Passat: 30 year old Tiltall tripod, top tubes wrapped in bicycle handlebar tape.
My father's hip flask filled with whatever happens to be around. Presently "La Viuda" Tequila Añejo.

If I'm going to a party or some such event where I don't want to carry either kit, in a pocket either the Yashica T4Super or the Olympus XA. Usually the Oly, as it is utterly silent.

Well, I guess I can join in... Depending on what I'm shooting/where I'm going to be:

Domke F-5XB with Bessa R + 35, Bessa L + 21, 75, half-dozen rolls of various film, couple of filters, notepad, pencil. Maybe just the R with 3 lenses, in which case add a Sekonic 358.

Crumpler Budgie Smuggler with Canon 300D, 28-135, 50, maybe flashgun, the Sekonic, memory, hard disk storage.

Either will also have a lenspen.

Maybe the Crumpler with my k1000 + 50 and my lunch.

Or (rarely) a Lowe Pro I can't remember the naem of with the Canon gear and maybe my Minolta Autocord. Maybe even the Pentax, too.

I have all these cameras, but the beauty is, I use them all. Of course, the trick is figuring out which I want to take with me today :-D

Phil is sorting me with one of the Safrotto satchels, then I fully intend it to become my go-to-work bag, with the R and all my papers and stuff, so it's always with me...

Most of the time I have the Konica S3 or the GSN or the Hexar AF with me. Just got a nice 50/1,4 to the d70 so that one comes along to. AN

here you go.

clockwise starting at the top left.
Zeiss 21mm 2.8, Leica MP with a 35mm 2.0 Asph, Zeiss 28mm 2.0, 1DSII with a Zeiss 35-70mm 3.4, Zeiss 50mm 1.4, Zeiss 100mm 2.0 and some junk.

Nice, Jorge. I like the camera at the top and in the middle of the photo, best. Keep that MP buddy!

with all the changes over at my place, i thought i should start re-arranging my camera bags.
i packed up the domke first, thinking it would be plenty roomy and my everyday bag.
it works ok and looks all beat up (i like that part) but it was a bit too big after all. i could live with it though.

truth be told, i'm partial to the billingham. i like it's compact size but i don't care for the top. it's a zipper and getting things out or in quickly is a pain. fortunatlely i don't do things too quickly on a regular basis.
so everything that i had in the roomy domke i found room for in the more compact billingham s3.

i ended up with a canon p with 35/2 & a canon p with 50/1.8 and my 85/2 lens along with my 'new' metrastar meter.
i also managed about 10 rolls of film, a tiny flashlight, a lens cloth, some business cards and a small pill holder.

i think this will work.

my canon 7 with 35/2.8 and a pilot 2 meter fits nicely into my very small tamrac traveller.
my 'extra' 2 canon lenses are stored in the book/camera bag.

i think i may treat myself to a new bag when i hit new york this summer, if i can find a domke 803. (i think that's what it is)

anyone need a domke 4af?

joe

Bag? What bag? I just carry one body (contax G or Mamiya 7) mounted with the lens I think I'm going to shoot with, a pocket full of film and occasionally a meter in my hip pocket if shooting chrome. I simply can't move and shoot while carrying a bag. Plus I find it intimidtes people. Having just one lens means you never miss a shot by stopping to change.

I always carry extra flim in a little cooler tha stays in the car. Nothing but film in there.

I do have a cooler with two Contax G bodies, five lenses, a 283, bunch of other junk that I occasionally use.

I have another cooler with a Mamiya 7 and two lenses & meter

I have another cooler with a Nikonos, two lenses and finders, underwater meter

I have another cooler with a Bronica SQA, three lenses, two backs, extension tube, meter, two finders

I usually have a tripod rolling around in the back of my van in addition to several coolers.
