When color film stock can be back to normal?

Has anyone used SILBERSALZ35 (KODAK VISION3 Motion Picture Film) and the service they provide? They are in Germany. Seems for 20.90 Euro - cost of film, processing, and hi-res scans seems like a good deal. Lots of info on their FAQ. 4.90 euro for neg return. More savings when purchased/processed as a 4-pack.

I found one RFF member here jmanivelle with a rather nice image: https://www.rangefinderforum.com/nod...36#post4766836

Film Review: SILBERSALZ35 (A Game Changer for Film Photographers)

Thank you raydm6 !
My experience with the 200T vision 3 provided by Silbersalz is very positive.
Their processing and scan are very clean .
Already went through a dozen rolls .
Just wished they'd provide TIFF files instead of RAW files and JP2 files. They provide preview regular jpeg files as well.

Hope this helps, Jean-Marc

It all began in 2018 when Agfa (fuji C200) was discontinued. But C200 was affordable back then. Since 2021 C200 has increased price almost 2 fold.

Let not forget that C200 was made to undercut the price (and quality and quality control) of the user/amateur class film. Once they saw the junk was accepted by the cheapstakes, they chopped the amateur line (Superia) and rised the price of C200 above Superia. A few years later they chopped the Pro line (Pro 160, 400H, 800z) and climbed the price of the film that was brought out as a compromise film above the price of the once top line.

I see Kodak copying them. Kodak Gold cost more than Ektar.

Colour film is scarce but AGFA is promoting their plastic P&S cameras. They can be found ,together with underwater disposable cameras loaded with colour film, in many tourist spots. Is AGFA expecting their cameras to be used with B&W film ??

Ilford also launched a plastic P&S camera, but at least Ilford B&W films are available.

Regards
Joao

I cannot imagine spending current film money and then putting it into a one shutter speed plastic camera. I would rather buy a very nice dinner and great beer. Gone are the days of putting roll after roll through a Holga for me. Ok, those days were gone in the 90s!

Silbersalz35 is based in Germany. It looks like an attractive option whenever you're based in an EU country. Outside of the EU, I'd be concerned with curstoms, cost of shipping etc... Cheers, OtL

I don't think I've shot any film in the last two years; previously, I was shooting about two rolls of C41 a week. I have a look every now and again if I'm going away via airports that don't have CT scanners, but it's always the same story, no availability or eye-watering prices from those that have stock (£42 for a twin pack of C200 on Amazon currently).

I'm just glad Fuji makes X series cameras.

For the last six months or so, my local CVS store has pretty consistently had Superia 400 three roll packs (36 exp.) for $28. That's about $10 more that the same pack was three years ago, but at least they have it on the shelf and you can walk in and purchase it.

I have to say that although I love shooting my film cameras, if I was primarily interested in color instead of black-and-white, I'd probably go all digital.

I think part of the problem for color is that now what used to be the cheap film that nobody wanted to shoot is even too expensive.

Agreed. I see a lot of people on Twitter talking about Kodak's Color Plus as if it's some glorious C41 film that leads to magic colours because it's now a premium price film stock.

Meanwhile, ten years ago it was the £1 a roll trash that I literally only used when trying to diagnose and eliminate light leaks.

It's madness.

Right now I’m using saved-up Kodak Gold 200 and Kodak Ektar 100. I’ll continue to buy and use color film as it becomes available. I’ve got lots of B&W.

Woah! I just recently finished my stock of film, which had kept me from looking at film prices for the past couple of years, and I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I started to look online to resupply my stash. Holy moly, last time I bought a pro-pack of 120 Portra 400 it was $25. I feel like Rip Van Winkle waking up in some horrible new world!
