The M8 fuss is about over. Aren't we ready for a 7A by now for the film people here?

camera they ever had 😡 - compared to Canon 5D( both cameras are digital ),
you can have 2 5D's for one M8 - in the same time photos from Canon are at least 2 times better - I'm talking about how photo from camera looks - not about two worlds - RFs & DSLRs. In the same time, they must find their place in era of digital - if they don't, I'm afraid - that will be the end of Leica story.

But the lenses of Leica are better than those of Nikon and Canon!
collum said:agreed.. but the lack of an AA filter makes a difference as well as the lenses... most noticable in shots that exhibit very fine detail. (once you get above iso 320, that advantage goes away)
Joop van Heijgen said:That's the problem with the M8; you need an AA filter which results in a more worse resolution of lens quality!
The M8 digital camera is still not a perfect camera and is in fact not very suitable for 'analog' M lenses!
collum said:not quite sure i follow.. the AA filter blurs the image, resulting in less resolution.. not having the AA gives finer detail. and i agree.. not perfect at all.. but still a very good tool. (since i shoot IR, i find the problem with IR sensitivity to be an advantage 🙂

I can't imagine leica coming out with any new film M's. As mentioned they have their hands full with the problems of the M8. I'm still not convinced they will survive. Even though the M8 has sold Ok by Leica standards I would'nt think they've come close to recovering their R&D costs yet much less straightening out the existing issues with the M8. Compared to other high end digital camera sales the M8 has'nt even been a drop in the digital bucket.
x-ray said:I agree that the Nikon and Canon pro line are better than the M8 in image quality but disagree with the lens statement. Both Canon and Nikon make exceptional lenses. I used Nikon digital for a number of years and have used Canon for the past six. Canon's 24 1.4, 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.2, 135 2, 200 1.8, 300 2.8, 400 2.8, 500 4 and 600 4 are at the top of the quality list. Optical performance is superb and leica has nothing to compete with most of these lenses. I own many of these lenses and use them commercially and have used leica M's now for almost 40 years. I have both Zeiss and leica asph glass and would say Zeiss overall beats Leicas glass.

For 'film' photograpy the M concept is nearly perfect for more than fifty years!
