I've just acquired a Canonet QL17 G111 as my very first rangefinder, but the light trapping foam in the door etc is dire and the viewfinder is 'milky'. It has a battery, and I played around and everything seems fine, but there is also some internal lens dirt and I think the camera needs a full overhaul or what I believe is called a 'CLA'. Anywhere in Britain I can get this done? Anyone had one of these CLA'd. I'd even be willing to send to the USA, as I believe some people got theirs done over there, but need confirmation of a) where and b) acceptance of international orders. The camera is actually in minty condition cosmetically and I got it for about half what others are selling for already serviced ones, according to what I could make out on the auctions market recently. I don't mind paying maybe UK£100 or US$200 for the whole works, including a lens clean, because after getting to know this camera and reading about it, I want to keep it long term and use it regularly. What's the deal with the batteries for these (I think the one in mine is a PX something. Any help would be great!

Hmmm, looks like 'no CLA in UK' for my Canonet. Been on to the biggest photo retailer in Britain, with only ambiguity regarding a possible service for it (oh my!). So just found a guy in USA who sells serviced ones on eBay, and he's taken it in for me for a full going over - including fitting new light seals! To think ... 'transatlantic' for a simple service for a Canonet QL17 GIII! (And the price is great, which compensates for the cost of postage!)

I only just saw your post. In the UK, I would suggest Newton & Ellis in Liverpool and doubt that anyone else here would take it in for you.

I hope the US guy you are dealing with is Grehoundman from here. If so, you will get a top-notch service.
