Which layout for a web page.

Please see the attached images and let me know which one you like best. This would only be applicable to a home page.

Option A

Option B

Option A - looks an interesting site to explore with a variety of possibilities.
Option B looks 'dead boring' and a place to avoid - nothing happening!

A has more going on, which I like -- but it's really too much going on. I actually think you want links to galleries rather than the actual pictures on the home page -- less cluttered.

Agree with Jesse, option A looks more interesting, like there is more content. Option B looks like one of those sites that's either just full of links to other sites, or it's not been updated in ages.

I like "B" much better. When it comes to photography websites, I feel is is important to just let the photos do the talking. Any other information is just a distraction from the real subject matter.

B is cleaner (and thus, I prefer it). A is a bit of a headache.

But I can understand why the more social aspects are there (trending photos, etc.). I now see this is supposed to be a home page...well try simplifying A so that it looks more like B. B looks like a clickthrough, not a homepage. And unless this is a site that is featuring just one photographer, B won't fly.

Not to be too PC, but I think a melding of the two would be best. I prefer B, but it is a home landing page after all and would require some textual direction. Keep the focus on photography and just reduce the number or emphasis of the follow-on action zones.

The reason I like option A is because it looks like there is more to offer other than anding on a boring page with just some thumbnails. Keep in mind this is ONLY for the home page. The intent is for new visitors to find something interesting and continue browsing.

I like neither because both give the impression that the photography is not the main focus of the site (though B less so).

Why do you think photography is not the main focus of the site? There is a Hall of Fame photo, most recent thumbnails, most recent liked photos and comments about photos. It is all photography related.

For me, 'A'. Though a little cluttered the layout looks fun and interesting, consequently I might come across something by chance. I like that.

'B' is too regimented and ordered for my liking.

Each to their own.

Likes and comments can be had at Flickr, Facebook etc. As a visitor i am entirely uninterested in which is the most recently liked image or what other people say about an image. I want to form my own opinion without lots of clutter disturbing my experience taking in the photography on the site. For that reason I prefer more traditional sites with one main image, categories in a menu etc.
