Which Nikon SLR to sell? F, F2A, F3?

Leaving aside the domestic authority issue, I'd have to ask how much you use the autoexposure function on the F3? It is one aspect of the camera that does not kind of duplicate the other Fs. If that function is not important to you, then I would agree with those who have suggested disposing of that camera because of its electronic components. If it were me, I would sell both the F and the F3, and keep the F2.

Is that F a black body? If yes, I'd keep it.

I'd be selling the F3. Hard to decide between the F2 and F, but, if it is a black F, I'd be keeping it.

So, adios, F3 and F2.

what about ditching the MD4 motor drive, if that's the burning film issue?

sell the F2 and the F3's motor drive, and call it a day. F3 for nostalgia, F for classic (or when the F3's circuitry dies and is irreplaceable)

Yes, I am very tempted to sacrifice all of the Nikons for the M7. I do use the AE function of the F3 and M7 a lot, but I can manage with manual exposure setting.

The F is chrome, with plain prism. No meter, which may be a bit of a PITA, especially with the macro lenses. Then I'd have to calculate light fall-off based on magnification, etc.

F3 has been ultra reliable so far, but somehow she has a strong dislike to it.

So, that's why I'm leaning towards saving the F2 if the Nikon system survives at all.

I'm absolutely the wrong guy to weigh in on this debate seeing as I have a 6' section of shelf space just for Nikons. But here's my advice - keep all three and start looking for an F4. The one with the MB20 battery grip - great camera although (like the F3) you're wedded to the electronics inside. Because then you have the F through F4 and it's really hard to break up a set like that.

The M7 is absolutely my favorite camera to shoot with - nothing even comes close. It instantly turned all of my Nikons into dust collectors.

Marital oppression aside, I'd keep the Nikon F, as it's the only Nikon which really appeals, I guess because it as simple as a Leica M3.

Or, sell the M7, and replace with a cheaper Leica, sparing funds to save all the Nikons.

Keep them all

Keep them all

If they are out of sight are they out of mind?
Disburse them to local friends whom you trust (or RFF members whome you trust) not to sell the cameras to keep them for you.
When you want to use one, call up a buddy, grab it from them then use it and check it back in when you're done.
I was going to say things that have been said about the CinC but that's not really my place, nor anyone's. I can make tongue-in-cheek remarks but only with members whom I know quite well.
So how about just getting them away on loan to friends' houses so you can get them back in the future?

Keep the one that you actually (and honestly) prefer using the most. The one that has the most functionality to you in order to make photographs. Toss out all the nostalgia and emotions. Otherwise you risk ending up in the 'collector' mindset and it becomes all about the camera instead of image production. It's about making photographs.

I went through a cleansing process not too long ago. And along with that, I went through self inflicted therapy to help me quit thinking about cameras and instead think only about photographs.

And don't listen to anybody else (especially me!) Follow your own instincts. Even if the interwebs says the camera you like using the most is the worst camera on the planet. As long as it motivates you to photograph and can produce the images you're after, then it's the best camera in the universe.

BTW, how many lipstics does she have? Make her sell most of these.

For me the appropriate comparison would be shoes. Her shoes completely fill the shoe closet (and all other available space) at the entrance to our apartment. There's no space to store my shoes whatsoever so they get scattered about on the floor (not really a problem as I don't have many). If she starts griping about my cameras, then I start griping about having nowhere to store my shoes because she has taken up ALL the space. That usually ends the discussion quickly 😎

My $.02:

Keeping a classic meterless F of any color is always good karma! But as you point out, it has its limitations, e.g. in macro work. If those limitations are going to frustrate you, it's the wrong one to keep. (You could always add an FTn meter, but why do that when you already own a metered F2?)

She dislikes the F3+MD4, and the F3 alone is thin soup compared to the combo. So it's the wrong one to keep.

Which leaves you the F2.

Why the emotion re the F3.

Why the emotion re the F3.

The F3 has a bit of history behind it. I missed bringing her to a college dance because I was working to get money that evening, and I used it on purchasing the F3. Probably a bad start there.

Then, I used to bring it with me everywhere. She felt that she was a spare tire to a couple of the F3 and myself. That made vacations awkward for her. Now she is wreaking vengence!

I would sell the F, oh what year is the F2 if it's after 78 I think that's the
year they started making some improvements on the F2, but keep the
F2 and F3 for sure.

Range

I have a really decent F2, a mediocre F2A and a decent F3HP. I looked at the prices they sell for on KEH or Ebay and it's sweet bugger all.

For those selling prices I'll keep the cameras 'till I croak!

Besides, they are excellent cameras, you may want them again one day.
