Have been wondering about getting a second M-mount body ( have an M6 "classic"). Much as I like the M3 and can add a meter to it, I would prefer the convenience of a metered (smaller ?) body . I can always consider another M6 body (used), but, maybe its worth considering a Bessa R or R3A., Hexar RF, or even the new Zeiss Ikon body, tho there is a significant cost differential amongst these. The opinion I seek has more to do with the different experience using these cameras with Leica/Hexanon lenses, rather than cost being factored in. Of course, I would have to get rid of some other "toys" if I bought a more expensive body. 😕

Hi,
I have two m6's for a reason.
The good thing is that they are exactly the same. In the flow of shooting this is important to me. I can use all my lenses on both bodies. The dials turn the same way and the VF info is the same.
This makes it a no-brainer to switch bodies.

lots to be said for this argument.
with the three p's it was just a matter of what lens was on what body but they usually had the same film so it was a simple process to follow.

As an amature, usually taking pictures in non-pressure situations, I like having different bodies for my lenses. (M2. 3, 6) I like the different feel of the slightly different cameras. Variety is the spice of life for me.

I would probably leave a 50 Summicron/Hexanon on one (most used), and use the other for a 35 Summicron or 90 Elmarit/Rokkor (hence the preference for a smaller body); Alternatively B&W in one and Colour in the other. I do love the ergonomics of a strapped /gripped M6, but - as FrankS said- I too am an amateur and like the versatility / variety of different shooting experiences. But its hard to replicate the comfortable solidity of the M6. Never having held/seen the smaller Bessa bodies, I don't know how substantial they will feel in use. Also, I wear glasses which adds another issue to all this.

Bought a 111f a few years ago. Last month a 111c mate for it.

When the M6 came out, I got a chrome one and black one. Still have them.

cameras are best used in matching pairs, or at least stay with Leicas.

CV are cheaper, but they have no history and you don`t know if they will be repairable in the future. There are lots of folks who repair Leicas.

I used to have a Bessa R. Their good points are that they are relatively inexpensive, light in weight, and have a great viewfinder. (No problems with eyeglasses and viewfinder.) The corollary of being light in weight is that they feel much less substantial than a Leica M in MY hand. YMMV
