who here shoots only rangefinders?...not a poll

At the risk of sounding like a heretic here, I don't believe that the rangefinder is the universal hammer for all things that look like a nail. 🙂

I'm glad I rediscovered the rangefinder. For low light work it beats the SLR hands down in most cases. It's also great as a carry-around general purpose picture taker.

The people who shoot rangefinders also appear to be a special breed. They, as a group, appear to be very much in tune with photography as an art and a craft.

The SLR does have its purpose. I do like the zoom and the WYSIWYG for some work.

And if anybody cares, I don't do digital. 🙂 Never felt the need. 🙂

Learned on a GSN - been self taught since picking up the camera...about 3or4 years ago.
Wouldn't know where to begin with a SLR. Digital just dont appeal to me because I work on a computer enough as it is.
80% - Bessa r2
20% - Yashica 124G

I sold my DSLR and I have a Pentax film SLR but, I rarely if ever use it. I shoot a rangefinder 80% and a small digicam about 20% of the time. I have been slowly converting my system to rangefinders only.

I guess I'll have to be one that bucks the trend. I shoot mostly digital these days, an Olympus C-7070WZ. When I shoot film, I grab my Bessa R, my Fuji Natura, or a TLR. My SLRs seldom see use anymore. I would probably shoot more film if I hadn't sold my GA645; silly decision, that was.

gee, this thread had been asleep for awhile...

still just rangefinders for me.

not that there's anything wrong with slr's, digital or film.
i just don't shoot long or macro anymore so why carry the extra weight and noisy mirror?

30% Leica M/LTM
70% DSLR

The DSLR is usually used for event/wedding/portraiture where I'm being paid for or the customer wants things back pronto.

The Leicas are strictly for ME and ME only 😀 and that's the way I like it 🙂

For work, DSLR.
For hobby, Bessa R2.
Occasionally for hobby, Yashica-mat.
To take pictures of my RF gear or in any kind of potentially dangerous place (i.e. canoe, boat), point & shoot digicam.

Bessa gets about 90% of use. 🙂

50% RF - Yashica 35GTN or Zorki
50% SLR - Exakta

I've purchased a Zorki-6 and Iskra-1 6x4.5 recently, so percentage of my RF photography will probably increase 🙄

Bessa rangefinders, FSU rangefinders, fixed-lens rangefinders, Nikon SLR's, Pentacon Six MF SLR, Diacord TLR, ... Sorry 🙁
