Why do I hate the word Vlogging?

I hate this word with a passion... and I hate that cameras are adapting to this trend. Am I being silly (and maybe I have had too much to drink)?

:D Had to laugh at this one. I don’t mind the vlogging itself so much but stills cameras being ‘tuned’ for vlogging purposes are positively a step backwards in use for photography. I’m looking you fuji x-t4 with your dumb 90s camcorder swivel screen and removal of metering modes switch for a video mode one.

You are not being silly. You'd think manufacturers would jump at the chance trying to sell you 2 cameras instead of one. I blame apple.

Georgi Romanov does it in Russian. He is very good photographer. And does good video by himself. So, he needs camera which has good specifics for YouTube video. And not only him.

You have to look on it from different perspective. Canon 5D MKII was one of the first photo cameras to be in used for AV recording and have it edited for broadcasting.
Now in addition to idiot box here are YouTube channels. Often one person or small team.
With less equipment. And they needed cameras like you see heading this way.

I applaud to people who are watching limear and VoD content. But not all of us an Americans.
Some of those who left Russian TV, but stayed in country are now providing free speech content. On YouTube. They are benefiting on small photo cameras adopted for video and optimized for single person operations. And people like us are benefiting from it. They say more watching YouTube than TV for Russian language content.

i don't like anything to do with video...it would be nice if it wasn't part of every new camera...(well most)

Exactly!

I hate, hate, hate it that I cannot delete items on camera menus to pare the menu down to its minimum.

Yes, I can ignore (except I can’t) stuff (useless clutter) I don’t use, and having a video section on a stills camera that I can’t send for ever into oblivion is just plain offensive.

I could go on…

Rant over (it’s early, my BP already is up, and I don’t want to ruin my day).

I hate that manufacturers don't make camera just for me.. and I would like to have options, so all of them should do one, so I could choose which I like most. and continuing the though, I'd like them to do entire system for me, so I could expand while my cat photography is progressing.

Good point... I guess I see all the frivolous types and not the ones with substance.

Haha... so, I'm the only one who doesn't really want video features being the main objective of what used to be still cameras?

It isn't like you do not have your own biases I'm sure. Honestly, I get over it...but am I not allowed an anti video rant on a site that still loves 100 year old cameras?

I know I'm a dinosaur on the edge of extinction. Video has never been important to me. I guess most or all my cameras have the feature but I don't even know if it works. Never used it, never will.

And as for those videos posted online as "how-to", I never watch them. Maybe they're made for the illiterate. Maybe they're made for someone with a short attention span. The certainly don't contain enough information to warrant the minutes spent viewing them. They're such a total waste of time.

A survey of kids in the US and UK showed the #1 future job they would like to be is "vlogger or YouTube star". Chinese kids still dream of becoming astronauts (taikonauts?). We are so screwed as a society...

It doesn't help that most general vloggers seem to be incredibly narcissistic and unpleasant people. Why they attract such a following is one of the enduring mysteries of life. Investigating further is to be discouraged, that way lies only misanthropy.

The most annoying thing about video is that it is such an inefficient medium. The same amount of content as a 1 hour video can be summarized in one page of text that can be scanned visually in under 5 seconds. I suppose if you think you are the center of the universe, you also think viewers basking in the awesomeness of yourself is a feature, not a bug.

Very interesting observation. I noticed myself that whenever I need some info on “how to”, I try to find text or pictures and I hate videos. All this “hello, today we gonna talk about... and blah blah for 5 minutes before they are at the point which I need”. And yes, I am very worried about “wannabe youtuber” generation.

It’s funny, I just hate the word more than anything (not a fan of hybrid words that people forcibly make too often these days) and that still cameras are becoming video cameras. I’m sure the latest generations will be fine...They always are.

Yes, I find that almost all how-to youtube videos are full of waffle - with the presenter mithering on about SFA for an eternity. I usually FF huge amounts, until I get to the part where they actually start presenting some information.

I've had two digital cameras with video capability and have never use it, I just don't get it. They could make cameras smaller if they didn't have all the non-camera stuff.

Screwed? Sounds like you have portraits of Stalin and Mao above your desk.
Kosmonaut was regular answer from soviet kids. China is same human rights depressing state. With millions in the concentration camps. For just been different.

Most astronauts are not far from Belka and Strelka. Follow commands, programs from the center. With rare exceptions like getting back from the Moon.
Vloggers are independent, no need to leak the balls of establishment to get on the top.
True, not manipulated way to popularity and possible income. Opengangan style.

I like to listen vloggers while I'm doing workout. Can't stair on single picture all the time while I'm on the treadmill, then on the bench and doing burpees after. I also know how to skip commercials and scroll the video. :)

Also, now if I want to see how lens, camera is made I don't have to deal with lousy and not effective images from so-so bloggers. I watch it on video instead. With still images provided in the video at quality not different from bloggers. Kai W is also awesome :).
