Why is 24/25mm better than 28mm?

It is best in the context of my wide set is 24/35 rather than 21/28/35.

Or I could say 28 is too close to 35 for two only set.

For a single wide, 28 is better.

All just my opinion and we all get one free. I prefer a two lens wide set 24/35

Damm, I like them both . . . . .

I contemplate a purchase of a 21mm every once in awhile and if I picked one up and liked it the 24 would be sold.

I think 28mm is a better lens for my M2 where I can use it without external finder. On the R7 I have the 24mm

I don't like the distortion so I much prefer 28mm in general (yes, I shoot portraits with that lens)

As much as I know, then 24-35mm is wide and everything below that is called super wide. So according to terminilogy, 24mm is the widest wide angle.

To me ? 15 and 35 is a nice combo.

I use my Leica Super Angulon 21/3.4 lens as my everyday lens and my 50 'cron as a telephoto.

On a Micro 4/3 camera, a 25mm lens is a 50mm lens. I love using 50mm lenses. A 28mm lens becomes a 56mm lens. Have I proven now that a 25mm is a better lens than a 28mm lens?

Is a 21mm lens a better lens than a 25m lens?
Is a 19mm lens a better lens than a 21mm lens?

This is so confusing.

24-25 mm is a better complement to a 35 than 28mm is. 28mm works really well with 40-50mm. I could live rather nicely with only one lens, a 28 summicron (or 18/2 Fujinon on the XPro). I don't, but I could...

I personally like 25 even better, 5 squared is mathematically so intriguing is might as well have a positive influence on your pictures 😀😀😀

I think its all a personal preference, really. For me - when I use RF 28 and 25 dont seem to work well, yet 50, 35 and 21mm I absolutely love. Yet when I use SLR - 24mm lens feels very comforable. Go figure. 😉

Well... 28mm is wide. And 25mm is wider.

So it's got more wideness in it, which makes it better, just like a Marshall amp that goes up to 11 and has more loudness in it.

You cannot give a general statement that one focal length is always better than another. There is no distortion with the 28mm lens.

Much as I love these arguments about the one true path of righteousness etc, etc, I fell ought to draw people's attention to the Weber–Fechner law. It's the one about even spacing on a log scale and so on. (I may have spelt the names wrongly, apologies if so.)

I think it is interesting to read how people understand their lens choices. I have 50, 35, 25, & 15--and generally try to pair the 50 & 25 or the 35 & 15 as combos--just to give me a contrast between focal lengths. I think that Stephen Gandy's comment, if I recall correctly, refers to the 25mm Snapshot Skopar "classic" (which I have)--arguably the best of VC's lenses. The 25mm FOV plus the three stop focusing tab make zone focusing easy. Longer lenses require more precise focusing, and if you go wider it is difficult to control distortion.
