Will I miss my VC 50 f1.5?

The only lens I sold was the 50/1.1 Nokton, for its focus shift, which I could not stand. Otherwise, lenses should only be bought.

The Nokton is a higher performance lens in terms of resolution and correction.
Plus it's faster, has modern coatings, and 40+ years less age and.... as John brings up has a more desirable short focus "throw".
Only the updated M version or Summilux Asph may be more desirable at this speed. Keep it and let the Canon go. It's a nice lens but not a choice over the Nokton 1.5/50.
Put a tab on it like others have done if you wish. Google "heavy star focus tab" for more info

Cheers!

That says it all actually.

I don't love or hate the Nokton 50/1.5 so I have no skin in this game...but I do love how Helen uses a lens. :)

Thanks for posting this Helen.

Haha, mighty Sweeeet of You 'Pioneer'
Thanks much

Fantastic photograph Helen !
That one damn Good Lens... keeps You on a Roll
Very Kind 'xayraa'...Thank You !

Between the nice photos posted, the overwhelming "keep it!" response and me reviewing some contact sheets the lens is not going anywhere. Another reason is that despite all the praise directed at the lens no one was interested in my ad here for $465. I also briefly listed on ebay, there was a black v1 listed at the same time. It sold for $415 including US shipping. Is this lens loved but undervalued?!

"Loved but undervalued" is probably correct. I believe the main reason is that the appearance of the new M-mount version has depressed the value of the earlier LTM lens. The newer lens is slightly smaller, and I believe the market for the Nokton is mostly for M-Leicas. The LTM lens is really too large to use on a Barnack, as it seriously blocks the viewfinder window. The market for its use on Canons, which have a VF window much farther from the lens axis, is not all that big. So the LTM Nokton is a bargain these days: good if you want to buy one, not so much if you have one for sale.

Cheers,
Dez

Hey, Neighbor! :)

Do you know how this LTM version seats on M series?
I'm thinking between J-3, because of size and price and Nokton 50 1.5 LTM.

Nokton goes down in price, J-3 goes up, it seems.

It works just fine on an M, and as I recall, does not touch the 50mm frame line at all unless the (near useless) hood is attached. I had one of these lovely lenses before, and only sold it to finance a good opportunity for a DR Summicron.

Here it is on my M4.

It is a rather large lens with a 52mm filter size, and this is probably the reason it was able to slightly outperform the much smaller pre-aspherical Summilux (per Erwin Puts, I never had a Summilux to compare). It's definitely worth looking for, and a good one should be findable for under $500.

Dez

I love my black CV 50/1.5 ltm. It is an excellent 50 lens. I have used many 50mm lenses.
