I applaud Leica for being able to do this stuff. But, it's all way, way beyond my budget or needs.

It's the perfect lens for well-to-do doctors, dentists, successful(not incarcerated)hedge fund managers, and former Russian presidents.
I'm sure it has a very high level of aberration correction.

Even "well to do" doctors don't buy this type of stuff. It's not like money just magically appears in your bank account.

Yeah wtf. In actual use, on a film camera or an m9, how much more can the actual medium resolve than a $800 zeiss 50mm planar, which is already one of the best 50mm's on the market.

This is just a whole pile of WTF.

I just read today from NY times that 7% of american households have over $1M in cash. This lens is not even 1% of that, plus you don't actually spend $7K to use it. You only spend $7K - whatever depreciation there will be.

For those who think that this lens will not sell. Well, how about talk about that when it's actually on the market. For those who prefer the 50 lux or 50 noct, what if the buyer already owns all of those but still has so much cash lying around?

The more high end lenses Leica makes the better. Because if someone is not buying this, they would spend the money on another watch, or handbag, or tires for a car. I would rather have Leica make this money than Ferrari or Rolex or whatever.

I'm thinking no, to the 50/2 ASPH.

Apparently, Leica's pricing scheme is based on the supply-demand of the 35luxFLE.
They saw people were willing to pay $7k for the then-new 35luxFLE, so they said, why don't they charge that much to begin with.
