This is a different issue, there has been controversy on that penalty, someone sees it as a dive, someone else sees Neill's left hand going up and intercepting Grosso's leg, but I agree it is a fact that has (rightly/or wrongly) led someone to think that Grosso dived, FIFA certainly did not see it as a referee's mistake since Medina has been given the quarterfinal between Brasil and France.
The "dives" on Italy-Germany are OTOH pure fantasy, no episode showing anything that could be interpreted as a dive by any stretch of immagination.
Cool,
Obviously I'm not as...'passionate'...as you.
Enjoy the final.

Sorry for al the Italian supporters, but we will win.
BTW, don't you think we should offer RFF a Leica M'agic Ball which could help us to bet in this kind of cases.

Unfortunately, life isn't that clear-cut and facts have a nasty way of mutating depending upon one's POV. The entire debate over tripping/diving in international soccer tournaments being a rather timely example.

Too bad about the referee's decision... The penalty action was a dive imo (although not as obvious as it seemed at first, while Materazzi retracts his left leg in the air, his right foot actually obstructs Malouda. He feels something and goes down quite easily, a bit too easily). Can't really help but feel Italy had this coming after the Grosso dive against Australia. Plus Totti did exactly the same thing in the 35th minute but the referee didn't see it. So that particular penalty sucks for Italy, but I can't really blame the French. Wish the referee had seen it better though!
But what a penalty! Gotta love Zidane for doing stuff like that.

Oh well, scratch anything about an undeserved penalty in the first half, because the French, and again Malouda, did deserve a penalty in the second half but didn't get it. And wow, the French were good! What a shame they didn't manage to score. Italy was playing horrible the second half. Only time they were dangerous was after Toni took the ball with his hand...

What a shameful display by Zidane. He let down his side, and France deserved to lose if only for that.

No excuses for what Zidane did but what did Materazzi bait him with... certainly hope it wasn't something racist.

I too am disappointed with Zidane... I can't imagine what any player could say to another to make one lose one's head like that in overtime and probably headed to PKs. Amazing. I'm simply glad to see the other players acting with a higher degree of sportsmanship towards one another.
Congratulations to Italy on a well-fought tournament.

Racist?
I mean Zidane is as white as Materazzi, difficult for him to make a racist remark.
Anyway as I did foresee it was a crappy game, with France actually playing better than Italy on the second half and during extra-time, really a shame the old warrior had to leave the football world in such a digraceful way!

Thank you for your congratulations, however given the poor footballing display from Italy after the first half it is difficult to get too excited about this victory.

No excuse for Zidane's behaviour - if the officials saw it he had to go off, but I'd be interested in knowing what was said to him to get such a reaction.
Of course if the officials did see it, it does beg the question as to why they took so long to decide on what was a pretty obvious sending off offence.
I actually thoght it was a very good game for a final.
