Would you buy M9 right away if the price is $6,999 - $7,500?

not a chance --- a d700 with nikkor glass is a much better deal - great image quality -- etc (i don't own one -- i'm a film guy -- but i've seen the image files and they are smokin') ... if the m9 comes in at that price - game over for leica -- i better get my a la carte MP3 done quickly!

I will wait till next year after tax season. By then, the bugs (if any) will be worked out, the hype will be gone, and prices should be better. I am using my M8 like crazy, and still regard it as the finest camera I have ever had (Fuji GSW 690 version 2 is a very close second, M6 third). My hope is the price will approach M8.2 levels. 6K I could digest, although with some pain.

I also hope by the time I decide to buy, we will also have classic chrome or black chrome to choose from. Silver chrome ala M3 would be KILLER!!!

The technology of an M9 will be dead meat in a couple of years. I've bought paintings that increased one thousand fold or more in value since I purchased them. I'd rather buy art than electronic toys-of-the-moment.

Nonsense. I didnt really see any sour grapes here. Just because some individuals choose not to buy the M9 at X pricepoint, for any number of reasons, does not mean that there are sour grapes.

No. It's not really a matter of being able to afford it, though.

• It's not a camera i would choose to shoot commercial jobs with. I just prefer SLRs.
• I still prefer the look of film, and no matter how good the M9 sensor might be, i don't think it, with processing, will give me a true Tri-X/Plus-X/APX100 with D-76 or Rodinal look. And, even if i could get 'close,' i'd still be paranoid about having made a 'simulation.' I'm not yet ready to accept the digital aesthetic for its own merits.
• Already have a 5DMkII.
• No matter how much money i have/will ever have, i don't think i can really feel comfortable slinging around a $7500 camera + $2000 lens, unless it were in a controlled environment. And, in a controlled environment, i'd rather shoot the Canon or the Hasselblad.
• I don't trust that Leica will get it right. Not immediately.

Hmm, looks like its coming in at just under the $6999 number ($6995 on the popflash page that has gone up a little early).

I'll certainly wait for feedback from early adopters to see how it actually performs... but I sense that I'll end up with one of these sooner or later.

i received an email from a friend (and fellow RFF'er) that he has a deposit and will obtain one as soon as they put it in his hands. i'll get one after my O/S move, tabs settled, and other things sorted. anyway i wrote a letter to the chubby guy at the north pole so hopefully there will be one in my stocking this year.

Plus I never bought the M8 because of the crop factor, in fact I've never owned any digital camera at all. But I'll wait a few months first to see how it all pans out and start the softenning process on the missus.

The manual focus Nikon glass is superb on the D700. There is a lot of it about and best of all it is inexpensive.
A 50 1.4 would be around £100 and you are away.
It smoked my M8 with 35 f2 so I swapped.
I could not believe the results from a lens 1/10 the price of the Leica glass.
Don't take my word for it. Give it a try
