Would you buy the new Fuji Range Finder?

At the currently touted price of US$3000 there is no way I would consider this camera. There are far better options for a lot less money.

That's what I counted too. But I can not translate what is said there and started from 300,000 Yen. Wonder whether a similar misunderstanding of the words 130,000 Yen or 30,000 Yen (very optimistic) is possible in the language used like it can happen here. The first alternative brings you closer to $1200.

A cardboard sign and piece of string around that guy's neck saying 'I'm a sucker for overpriced photographic jewellery' would be a lot cheaper and make just as effective a statement.

Muahahaha! And now for something completely different:
  • It's just me but I much prefer the silver-and-black look. I hope there is a choice between an all-black and a silver-black model,
  • According to measurements someone did on this forum the camera is slightly larger than it looks. Any idea why it's e.g. longer than a Plaubel Makina? What can possibly be gained by increasing the length? And why does the lens cover curve the way it does? The lens underneath is flat. (Perhaps parts of the folder mechanism stick out a bit in the closed configuration?)

The measurements are mine too. And I gave an explanation for the length somewhere, the curtains to change the width of film frame slide away from the 6x7 size adding in my estimations about 20 mm to the width. A simpler camera without the frame size change could actually be smaller and have a 56x82 film frame size. The curved cover is a retro look similar to the Bessa II but in this case the 6 element 4 groups with electronic shutter will be larger than the Color Skopar or Heliar 4/5 element 3 group lens.

A 'deeper' cover might allow the camera to be collapsed without changing focus back to infinity. It also might allow the camera to be collapsed with a filter mounted onto it. That's a nice thing in my opinion.
 
No. There are many excellent old rangefinders about. Why should I get a new one, at ten times the price, with enough electronics thrown it that it will probably be hopelessly beyond repair within fifteen to twenty years?
 
On the video the height of the camera seems simliar to the old Fuji GS645 folder. Even the release to open the front looks the same. I hope they improved the shutter mechanism this time around!
 
Voted no because it's film, not digital. And because I've already too many film cameras catching dust. But it's a very nice camera, especially the black Voigtlander Bessa III version, very tempting, but as said...

One expects Fuji & Cosina have worked out a good balance of price and projected sales volume, at least for the home market. Too high a price would undercut sales, requiring a still higher price to show profit... I wonder what effect the economic situation will have. If the dollar holds up well against the yen, we might find a reasonable price here too.

Point is this is a medium format camera i.e. equivalent to something like 50 megapixel in digital. Until this sort of resolution is available in digital under 5 digits, film camera is the only way to go.

Anyone would try to guess BTW how long it'll take for digital cameras to reach 50 Mpixel range under, say, $2,000? My guess is 10 years.

I think 10 years is fanciful. The upcoming Canon 5 mark 2, with its full frame sensor, high-def video, and high iso sensitivity will seriously challenge medium format quality, and all in one package for less than $3k. I love medium format and will buy the new Fuji if it's not too expensive, but I don't kid myself that my pictures with it will be any better than those with this new Canon dslr.
