is there a way to replace wrinkled curtains common with Canon RF? How does it affect shutter speeds if both 1st and 2nd curtains have wrinkles? Is there a possibility of light leak? Thanks!

The metal curtains even if wrinkled do not affect shutter performance.

Thanks, I'm looking for a permanent body for my Canon 50 1.4 and I just won in the evil bay a Canon P from a Japanese seller (npt Jir-e). The photos showed some medium/heavy wrinkles in the 1st and 2nd curtain but apparently newly CLA'd and the body is in very good shape. I understand wrinkled curtains on all Canon RF is pretty common but not sure how much wrinkle is really acceptable or workable.

I've seen on Essex cameras site they have an option for replacing the shutter curtains on the Canon7. It's possible they can perform the same work on other steel shutter bodies as well.

Thanks I think I'll wait for it to arrive and test if there are no light leaks hopefully as claimed by seller.

The curtains rarely have holes and generally the Canon P is as trouble-free a cameras as you might own. as for jiri_e, he is a gentleman and a man of his word. As many here will attest, his main flaw is in overstating the flaws of the lens or camera he is selling. His stuff is usually way better than he says. You will be happy.

Gil, I once had a ratty looking Canon P in college. It looked like a basket case (that's why I "owned" it only for 2 days) and its shutter was more crumpled than the foil used to wrap last Christmas's embotido.
Inspite of being so fugly, it actually gave accurate exposures and its VF/RF was clear and on the spot. I had to return it because I succumbed to cosmetic pressure! 😀

Hahaha Christmas embotido wrap yeah right...... i'll go get it tomorrow and see how it will perform I do hope the curtains are not like a cheese grater

Wooohoooo got the Canon P today and the wrinkled curtains in the photos when I bid is not as bad as I thought it was. Checked visually by pointing at a light source and looks like it's light tight. The VF is very clean and bright have not tried the alignment yet as I don't have the 50 1.4 lens in my office now. The shutter speeds seems right on and the body is in excellent condition. I lost 5x on a bid for a Canon P, I really wanted to have this body so I tried many times and got it finally at a price lower than any of my bids before. Great to have 35, 50 and 100 frameline.

Thanks Andy and oh btw this was not from Jiri-E but from another Japanese seller Nobuyuki San. Great person to deal with I'm sure Jiri is as well. I did bid again for another P from Jiri-E and it's about 4 more days to go let's see if I get this. I'll keep one and use one that's how much I craved for this camera though an M3 is still my all time favorite.
