They provide Silkypix so we know they've worked with at least one software developer. I find it rather hard to believe they would withhold information from Adobe and Apple just to protect their IP. They want to be taken seriously as a DSLR alternative and that requires working with industry standards. My assumption is therefore, they are most likely working with A and A, at some level.

If Ichikawa indeed has access to the complete Fuji x-tran demosaicing algorithm, then Silkypix processed raw files should be comparable to the X-Pro1's jpeg output.
So far, all the comparisons I have seen are lacking; Fuji is holding back some steps in the algorithm (from Ichikawa).
If Fuji truly desires X-Tran to be a marketing success, they must publish their (x-tran) demosaicing algorithm.
Since they have not done so, suggests they consider this proprietary information and are actively restricting its access.
Since it reportedly took many years to develop the x-tran demosaicing algorithm, third parties cannot be expected to undertake the expense to replicate Fuji's efforts.
Though some individuals may consider raw processing to be quaint and obsolete, a significant number of buyers will not consider models that are not fully supported by Aperture or Camera Raw.
Lets hope that Fuji "sees-the-light" and releases this information soon.
Does Silkypix have the same issues as the ACR ouput does?

I am happy with Fuji jpgs. As an enthusiast (i.e. not a pro), I don't need the same high level of quality that Bill does. I'd like to have it but I don't need it.
But I hope better RAW support comes soon. I wrote to Apple recently asking that they support Fuji X RAW in Aperture.

I used the Sigma DP1 camera for a while. I liked the camera, I liked the results, and years later still do. The fact that adequate RAW support just wasn't happening however led me to selling that camera. I learned my lesson there and will wait for decent RAW support before jumping to a new camera system. Others may feel differently, but I like my efficient workflow. But I hope better RAW support comes soon. I wrote to Apple recently asking that they support Fuji X RAW in Aperture.

This is one of the most interesting, informative and useful articles on the issue of converting Fuji X Pro and E1 raw files.
thank you for that link. The article and the embedded links (e.g. "Sandy") were understandable even to the technicaly challanged ;-). I also found the comments to Sandy's four part post interesting, as well as his post on RAW developers vs. camera mfgs.
I am sure that you understand that when you don't get an answer from a Japanese mfg, that the silence is the answer ;-). Possibly the "wrong or wrongly worded" question or addressed to the "incorrect" person/group. If you are interested, try again...

Capture one rumor for raw support
Capture one rumor for raw support
Even though I am not a user of capture one... I hope this rumor is true.. And other vendors are not far behind now.

Excuse me if I missed this, but has anyone used Adobe DNG Converter on the Fuji RAW files? I totally forgot about it and will try it out myself tonight.

Yes I have.. What is your question?
After conversion, I tried to import it into Aperture. It did not work. I can use the dng file in photoshop or LR fine.

Just wondering how well it worked? But this is totally subjective.....

Gary, thanks for the heads-up. Much appreciated. I'm one of those Apple-types that's waiting for the Aperture upgrade. I suppose they'll be the last one on the block to incorporated X Raw files. Oh well, no worries... XP1 jpegs are splendid.

If I remember correctly, someone in one of the other threads said that adobe used the same base engine for raw support in all their products from LR, photoshop and dng converter.
I posted a picture comparison of LR, RPP and silkypix in this thread. All processed from same raw image.. U can judge for yourself.

Why not go Fuji raw to adobe dng and then import to elements. If I remember correctly the dng converter has a batch capabilty.

I have been limping along by only exporting my best keepers to a raw processor like RPP or silkypix from Aperture. Then re-importing the tiff for the final work on it. A big pain.:bang:

Am I the only fool that keeps using LR with X-Pro1 files? Most of the time, I think they are fine.
