X100 - Back to the Future

Rotary shutters can't have a very high max speed, unless I'm mistaken. My Robots can only do 1/500. The size of the shutter opening also has be pretty small to keep the rotating disc's inertia low (and thus max speed high) which rules out using the design for longer tele lenses. For this reason I would think that its unlikely that Fuji would be investing a lot into using a rotary sensor as the design could not be used for an interchangeable version of the kit (or at least not with one that could support both high top speed AND use with longer tele lenses).
I’m kinda warming up to the thought of a rotary shutter... Of course the Pen F had interchangeable lenses, some rather long, too. The Pen frame-size was very similar to APS-C. And it was produced way back in the mid-1960s. The shutter could be made of carbon fiber or titanium foil to keep the inertial low and the speeds higher than the Pen’s 1/500.
Also of note, the compact X100 body needs room for the rechargeable battery as well...

Even an anemic TTL flash unit would be very good news. I would use such a camera almost all the time for available light... almost all the time. And for the remaining occasions, TTL would be lovely. Not essential, but useful.

I was looking for off camera flash. i can cable my Sb800's with full TTL into an umbrella or soft box with the little P6000. With the SU 800 commander on the P6000 or 7000 i can control a huge number of wireless speedlights. All this from a point and shoot smaller than the X100. It's a serious toy.

Just returned from Tokyo.

I did not find a single new X100 fact. I found a Japanese photographic magazine article about the announcement...mainly stock Fuji talks.

Camera stores were mum on the subject.

My account wasn't activated today, but I saw some press releases that it would be on display at the Fuji square in tokyo. Did you manage to make it by there?

I found two images that I think are very fun. The first is of the leather case, boy does it look nice. I love butt-cases and I'm sad they aren't as popular (or maybe even possible?) with dslrs. I believe I read in the article I found it that it is a two piece design, where the top can be removed completely.

The second I think shows the focus points you can choose. The focus button is almost cropped off, but appears to be in the center, AF-S mode, and the screen appears to show focus points you can choose. This doesn't say anything for speed of course, but as someone interested in the AF functionality, I was interested in this image.
