I've been waiting for the Fuji filter adapter and hood to arrive at Adorama; I'd pre-ordered it a couple of months ago. Today I cancelled that order. Instead, I came up with a 'cheapskate' method to protect the lens, which is all I really wanted the Fuji adapter/hood for.
I removed the decorative ring from the front of the lens, exposing the 49mm threads. I then screwed on a 49-48mm step-down ring I had in my 'leftovers' box. This ring is necessary to push the filter out a bit from the lens so that it doesn't bump into the filter in macro mode. I then used gaffers tape to attach a 49mm haze filter (reversed) to the step-down ring. This then leaves a 49mm thread out front, onto which I re-screwed the decorative ring. Here's the result:
If you can find some sort of 49mm non step-down ring, then you can avoid using the gaffers tape. However, I kind of like the look of the black tape. 🙂
