I've been waiting for the Fuji filter adapter and hood to arrive at Adorama; I'd pre-ordered it a couple of months ago. Today I cancelled that order. Instead, I came up with a 'cheapskate' method to protect the lens, which is all I really wanted the Fuji adapter/hood for.

I removed the decorative ring from the front of the lens, exposing the 49mm threads. I then screwed on a 49-48mm step-down ring I had in my 'leftovers' box. This ring is necessary to push the filter out a bit from the lens so that it doesn't bump into the filter in macro mode. I then used gaffers tape to attach a 49mm haze filter (reversed) to the step-down ring. This then leaves a 49mm thread out front, onto which I re-screwed the decorative ring. Here's the result:

If you can find some sort of 49mm non step-down ring, then you can avoid using the gaffers tape. However, I kind of like the look of the black tape. :)

Nice.. :)

As an FYI Looking Glass has the x100 accessories. Sold out their first 4 x100 cameras in 2 hours or so and are waiting for more to come in... That was about maybe 4 weeks ago.

Saw the batteries, camera case and lens hood there about 1 or 2 weeks ago..

By the way, I just figured out that a 46mm pinch-type cap fits into the decor ring perfectly. Had one of those in my spare parts box as well. :)

Personally, I don't think I'd want tape or adhesive that close to my glass. In hot weather that gaffers tape adhesive could heat up and make the entire section sticky. I'm going with the step down ring and vented hood. Just my 2¢.

How about taking the glass out of a cheap 49mm filter and use it as a spacer , mount your spacer on the lens and then the desired filter on the spacer, all 49mm , no duct tape

I did just that - I removed the glass from an inexpensive 49mm filter and as mentioned above here, used it as a spacer between the step down adapter and the UV filter before the hood. It worked extremely well. Here's what the setup looked like.
Truth is, I ended up using this setup until the hood and adapter arrived from Japan Exposures. (Super easy to deal with and fast shipping.) I cancelled my initial order for one from B&H when they didn't deliver. Good luck.
. . . Burkey

One thing to be aware of.. I did this exact thing and ended up losing the 49mm decorative ring from my x100 on a hike... It seems secure on the lens itself but I guess it didn't bind well enough on my reversed filter adapter.

Love the black leica dot, I laughed when I saw that.

Gary- We've gone through quite a few X100 shipments here already, but I've only seen 1 case (the first one the Fuji rep had ever actually seen!), 2 hood sets, and about 1/2 dozen filter adapters, maybe less?
(and a few of both flashes)

The accessories fly out the door even faster than the cameras....
