Hi All,

Anyone heard any legitimate updates on when Australian stores may be getting/selling the X100?

My camera store just sent me this -

:D

My supplier still tells me that they can't offer a predicted arrival date for the camera. Originally they quoted March 18th to 21st ... information on their website now states that Fuji's production facility for the X100 is currently shut down until further notice due to safety concerns.

It could be a while I supect!

I guess it all depends (as an importer) where you are in the pecking order. Obviously a lot of cameras were completed ready for shipping at the time of the quake and also obviously, nothing has been made since the quake.

Where this will really hit home is for dealers hoping for subsequent shipments.

I suspect quite a few individual buyers will probably cancel their orders due to impatience and look for an alternate 'retail fix!'

Supposedly this week

Supposedly this week

Fujiguys is saying the following on Twitter:

- US/Canada/Australia shipments have arrived
- Canada was shipping *this* week
- Australia got 3x more cameras than Canada did

One would have to assume that if US and Australia shipments arrived at the same time, they would be delivered about the same time as Canada. :)

Good luck. My pre-order is still in at J&R...

Aaargh ... news like this now has me checking my email inbox every time I'm near my computer!

Seems strange that Canada has them and the US doesn't. I thought they'd get them at the same time.

So its in my hands.. Just have to get home and charge it!

Guys in the store said its one of two they received today, forgot to ask when more are due.

Spyro, congratulations and I can't wait to see your results. Stunning shots you made with the Hexar. Now I can't propose a coffee as you'll think I just want to see your new Fuji.

So, Australia folks have them, do any Canadians have them? Outside of the Fujiguys, most camera dealers and fuji USA say they don't expect anything soon and don't know of any shipment at any dock.

Who's telling lies? ;)

Well ... I can tell you about one Aussie who hasn't got his X100 yet ... and he's getting very impatient!

ME

:p

Yeah, sorry about that Keith. However, there are a few that do... but haven't heard the same in the US or Canada.

Richard, anytime you want, the x100 comes with me to work every day :)
You'll be pleasantly surprised I think, the VF's brightness and clarity is better than my m6, and closer to your (better maintained) m6.

BTW I now know 2 people who sold their x100 on ebay for ~$2k, then placed an order again for the 2nd batch.
Profiteering... I wouldnt bother personally but it is a way to get your x100 for free, having tested it first :)

Here's a couple of my first pics with it

Great first pics Spyro - impressions? Especially around AF and user experience?

Thanks :)
its a nice camera man, not the end all - be all, but nice nonetheless. AF is good enough I think** but I'm probably not the best person to compare because I rarely use AF with my other cameras. In the x100 I do use it because I dont like the EVF at all, I dont think it has enough detail for critical manual focusing and also it is very quick to blow highlights in high contrast scenes, so when I try to focus on sth bright all I see is a white blob. Also a bit laggy (but no worse than other EVFs I've seen). Also I dont like the MF ring because it has very low gearing, it literally takes two full spins from infinity to minimum which makes the whole process too slow. I hope they fix that with a firmware update. As it stands I'd be very surprised if anyone can use this camera to MF on moving subjects.

**so far AF with the x100 has been 90% hit & 10% miss for me, the 10% is getting the green square to light up on a face, then realising the camera has actually focused in the background. But I suspect this might have to do with my AF technique which is not the best. Other than that AF seems at least as quick as my Hexar AF and it doesnt hunt as long as there is moderate ambient light.

Interesting! Maybe try reducing the size of the AF point to increase accuracy with faces and the like? I think you hold the AF mode button and spin the dial (or something like that) to reduce or increase AF area size.

Thanks I'll try that
LOL somebody in another forum is counting how many x100's have already sold on ebay:
$1,877.84
$1,779.01
$1,853.13
$1,620.00
$2,299.82
Average $1,885.96 and rising
