x100 on ebay

Its an OK deal, but not fabulous. I saw an X100 being offered for $550 recently. Seems like the average selling price for camera and a hood or case for $700. If you want the 28mm accessory lens, then the deal looks pretty good.

Is this bundle worth the price? The seller has been asked a question about the serial number which I am waiting to see the response.

If you add up all of the accessories the camera would be about 700 or less.

Wow...
What happened to those people who paid extra to get it ahead of schedule and so fort... "Game changer", "what possibly can be after X100", etc...
Sic transit gloria mundi.

i have been scanning the others listed and there seems to be a sudden drop in the number of bids on all of them. Before the official x100s announcement most of the cameras had active bids two or three days before the end of the closing time. I am now seeing a number of them with less than 24 hours without bids or with low total bids.

The one I posted above seemed like it would be a good deal at $850 with the extra lens, filters, case, etc. but not at the $1000 level. I am still waiting for him to update the question asked about the serial number if he is hesitant then I am going to assume he has had issue with the sticking shutter.

I am still considering buying this new, I have found it as low as $795 NIB with the full one year warranty. At least then it would be covered if it fails for whatever reason.

I am a cheap Ba****d. I didn't want to have to buy caps, hoods, case and the like separately. Its the extras that can make a good deal into a bad deal in a hurry. That was the main reason for looking at the camera in my first post. This guy has already thrown all of the money he could at the thing and that is what piqued my interest in the first place. That and most people who gear up this much on a hobby usually take care of what they have.

I got a response from the seller he says his number starts with 21M and claims to have had no problems with the camera. I am still on the fence about this but have a bit of time to decide which route to take. Time to do some pricing on gear and accessories.

www.AjRitchies.com is the site where the x100 is available for $795 with free ship.

Just a thought: If there hadn't been these folks that participated in the buying frenzy that then caused the media frenzy that then let Fuji know they were on to something, we might not have ever seen the X-Pro1, X-E1, or now the X100s. Same applies to Leica or whatever. Always has been so and always will be (sorry... my Latin is shaky).

Are serials important (e.g. to detect suspect shutter units vs improved ones) ?
If there's no sure way to tell this by serial, I wouldn't buy used x100 without replaced shutter unit (with papers confirming this). Rather new one with warranty.

It was a game changer...and now it appears they've done it again. People paid extra because Fuji had issues delivering in decent quantities because of the Tsunami / Earthquake in Japan.

Why do people get offended by people getting excited about a camera?

I'd say it's a so-so deal, but I don't like the complete refusal to take returns. I'd pay a little more to get it from a dealer.

I did post a bid and expect to be outbid by the end of the auction. I bought my canon this way to post what I will pay and don't up the bid. It took six or seven tries but was worth the wait.

It just happened 10 minutes later. I will probably end up buying new.

I hate to hijack my own thread but the company I mentioned before (ajritchies) that claims to have this camera for under $800 appears to be scamming a lot of their customers. The have many, many bad reviews on resellerratings.com. These are buried in among many very nonspecific 5 star ratings.
I was seriously considering ordering from them but because I had not ever heard of them before thought I better do a bit of research. I apologize for even mentioning it. I should know better than that.
