Unfortunately I can't answer your question and I don't want to hijack the thread but I'd also like to know same for the silver finish while we are at it - am I correct to assume this is not a true chrome but some kind of paint as well? The black X100F certainly looks like paint (not black chrome) but I've never held or even seen one up close in either finish - problem with living in a small city.
I'm contemplating a purchase myself and I know I'd likely be happy with black or silver, but my guess is that once either finish wears through/scratches a not entirely pleasant looking magnesium-alloy lies beneath. Then again, my guess is that the finishes are tough and will last quite a long while. Leica black paint on brass - at least on some of their bodies (like black MP film camera) - strikes me as a finish designed intentionally to wear through more quickly. Probably not the case with an X100F or other painted magnesium alloy bodies...?
