x100F black paint wear

Unfortunately I can't answer your question and I don't want to hijack the thread but I'd also like to know same for the silver finish while we are at it - am I correct to assume this is not a true chrome but some kind of paint as well? The black X100F certainly looks like paint (not black chrome) but I've never held or even seen one up close in either finish - problem with living in a small city.

I'm contemplating a purchase myself and I know I'd likely be happy with black or silver, but my guess is that once either finish wears through/scratches a not entirely pleasant looking magnesium-alloy lies beneath. Then again, my guess is that the finishes are tough and will last quite a long while. Leica black paint on brass - at least on some of their bodies (like black MP film camera) - strikes me as a finish designed intentionally to wear through more quickly. Probably not the case with an X100F or other painted magnesium alloy bodies...?

The "Look" of a camera is paramount in your purchasing choice???

No, definitely not, I'm really not buying an X100F for its looks (although the size/ergonomics do matter for what I have in mind and as an "object" I'd be lying if I didn't say it was appealing). Admittedly, the stakes are low when it comes to such a trivial decision but what the heck - got to push the button for one or the other.

Thanks for your answer aizan...

It will show grey under the black or silver.
Unless you are super rough with the cameras you may never see it.
I've got one old XE1 that has been a daily carry since it's first release.
Ana uses it now and sometimes one of the kids takes it... still looking and running great.
There are very few scratches on the body and only one or two that go through to the grey color.
The on off knob is worn and the rubber grip has become bright but the black paint is still very tight.
Expect the same or maybe even better from the X100F.
If you get it to wear you should be very happy indeed as it will mean you've gotten great use of it! :)
