X70 with pics

so TCS left me a message saying that my X70 is ready for pick-up.
unfortunately I've decided to cancel it as I'm happier with the XE2 + 18mm

This could finally be the camera for me that replaces my original X100. Smaller yet not too small to hold, solid autofocus, wider lens which I prefer for travel and everyday stuff. Better low light (though one stop slower...), Classic Chrome and 16MP might let me shoot JPEG only and WIFI transfer stuff to my smartphone for instant sharing. Finally, one of the most important features for me, USB charging (I assume, though I don't see it specified), because I hate the battery and charger of the X100. Would be so nice if during travel or everyday life if I could simply charge through USB without bulky charger.

One thing is standing in the way of my purchase, and it's my old scratched X100 still being awesome and probably making more pleasing images with the 35mm 2.0 lens.
As long as that thing doesn't break, any new version just seems like an incremental upgrade not worth 100s of dollars.

It has an OVF though...that is the difference. The X70 is an LCD camera, so they most likely thought turning the LCD off wouldn't be a great idea. However, Fuji has made an external OVF for the camera, so I would imagine they will implement this in a firmware update once the OVF is available.

Looks like Ricoh could be making it for them.

Only way I think it could really better the GR is if you could use it M9 style with screen entirely off in manual mode where you could actually see the shutter speed, aperture and focus but seems like it's a no go for focus unless maybe you could set the option for hyperfocus distance and then turn off the screen and shoot.

Only thing I don't like about the Ricoh is that you have to refer to the screen to see how it's set up.

I want to like the X70, but the lack of an integrated VF is holding me back. You'd think the success of the Leica Q would have inspired them to include an internal EVF. I really like the specs otherwise.

That said, if I could find an economical *locking* OVF to use with it I'd probably jump on one of these. I've come close to losing shoe mounted OVFs too many times...

Checked the Manual -seems like the display can NOT be turned off like the X10/20/30 - lack of alternative viewfinder....

Perhaps when the hotshoe finder comes out...

I've used mine and am very happy with it. I like it better than the GR. I don't care about a VF with a 28mm lens. If you guys are NEED a VF, look elsewhere. The LCD can't be turned off.

I imagine you bought the black version? A photographer I work for shoots Nikon and alongside his D4s is a couple of DFs...which I'm sure the X70 looks right at home next to.

Yeah, I bought the black one. Yes, looks great next to the Df and will look right next to the X-Pro2 that should be delivered soon. 🙂
