I have a Black one without the date back and a silver one with the date back and to be honest have never noticed the difference, apart from the first day when I took the battery out of the dateback.
Good luck, they are wonderful camera's and really the only things holding me back from diving head first into the world of Leica.

I just got the Hexanon 90/f2.8 for my R-D1 and boy is it sweet. Makes me wonder what the camera its supposed to be mounted on is like.

how is the Hexar in the rain (i'm talking drizzle, not torrential)?
Hi Cam,
having had multiple AFs apart, the camera isn't particularly well sealed. Similar to a Leica M. Never had a problem though, a couple of hours in drizzle and later out to dry is no big deal.
It's not little, BTW, same size as the Leicas. Quite heavy, too.
