I've been watching them too and the average price seems to be in the mid-$400s USD. That was just a blip because there hasn't been a clean black one without the silly date back on eBay in several weeks... and threads like these drive up the interest. I've bought and sold 3-4 of em now and should learn to stop selling them, for less than the price of a good 35/2 lens you get an entire camera.

Another thing I heard about this (maybe true or not) was that
this lens was modelled after the bokeh king 4th ver 35 summicron.
so that's another good characteristic (the excellent bokeh)

It's not Francis. The lens diagram is similar to the classic Nikkor 35/1.8. Also, the Hexar AF's lens can be found again as Leica-mount UC Hexanon 35/2, there are quite a few threads on RFF about the performance of this excellent lens.

the hexar af is a camera that i once had, sold, missed, and bought again. it is also a camera that is a favourite, so i got a second one.

I just got the Hexanon 90/f2.8 for my R-D1 and boy is it sweet. Makes me wonder what the camera its supposed to be mounted on is like.

LOL! we're talking about the little P&S (and i mean that with all due respect) not the Hexar rangefinder. the R-D1 is sweet itself (i have one), but i'm sure if you were to use it on film, be it the Hexar RF, a Bessa, or a Leica M, that lens would take on a whole new character.

Hi Cam,
having had multiple AFs apart, the camera isn't particularly well sealed. Similar to a Leica M. Never had a problem though, a couple of hours in drizzle and later out to dry is no big deal.
It's not little, BTW, same size as the Leicas. Quite heavy, too.

Cam: FWIW, my Hexars have seen a bit of rain, but a lot more snow. At certain points they've been almost buried in it. Neither camera was fazed, but like any camera whose "weatherization" hasn't been boasted about loudly, I'm not going to push my luck too much.
But I use them in bitter cold/extreme heat/etc. without a second thought. In the nearly eight years I've had them, they've been fine.
Edit: Silly me, I'm slightly off in my topic; the Hexar AF I also owned for five years didn't complain much in a bit of rain, either.

thank you, both! i've been lusting after this camera for a long time. after realising that it is about the same price as some digital "weatherproof" camera, i decided now might be the time to bite.
just need to find one that's been treated with a little TLC.
p.s. did mean to call it little, but you know what i mean.... as for the heavy, i've built up my muscles with the Noctilux 😛
