I purchased a new CL with the 40 and 90 when they came out. The 40 is a really nice little lens. For street shooting it's a great system. Add a small 28 like the CV and you've got it all. I often wish I had my old one back.

Another vote for the Summicron-C, it's a great lens, and a steal for what it usually goes (mine was a little less than $250 with clean glass, intact rubber hood and some brassing). Most of my Flickr shots were taken with it, on the R3A and the M3 (using the whole VF). Flickr has several more pictures tagged with Summicron-C here: http://flickr.com/photos/tags/summicronc.
You can modify it to bring 35mm framelines on Leica bodies, too (mine has been modified by a previous owner), and frame tight.

Here's some shots I took of the so-called fungus in the 35 summicron. I've never tried to look this close at fungus before so is this it, or is something else that can be cleaned? I'm still probably going to go for the CL package but maybe I can swing this too if it's fixable and I can get a better deal based on the condition.
I appreciate all the feedback about this. Thanks!

Looks cleanable and not like fungus in the first place.

IIRC, fungus looks more like white spiderweb than black dots...
Just looks like basic crud, Dave, not fungus.
Hope you enjoy your CL kit and both Summicrons (which, seems to me, are roughly the same size).

Thanks guys! Weird how the crud photographed black but looks white to the eye. Guess I'll call Gerry at Kindermann and get an estimate for a cleaning!

I thought fungus looked like little amoebas or icicles but maybe I've seen too many sci-fi movies. Check with someone who knows--it may just be dust.
On the merits--the CL, 40, 90 combo is very useful; I've had it for about 10 years. My 2 CLs were CLA'd by Leitz and have given no trouble since. Don't knock the 90; it works fine on any M. And do you have a 50? There are lots of cheap 50s (Jupiter-8, Industar 61LD), and the CL has that frame too.
If you need a 35, you can always get the CV 35 f:2.5 for not much money. That's what I did for my M5.

I have a Summicron 50 and a CV Ultron. The Ultron is a great lens but doesn't focus close enough. I'll keep it for low light stuff though.Santafecino said:I thought fungus looked like little amoebas or icicles but maybe I've seen too many sci-fi movies. If it's going to cost too much to clean that 35 then I'll just forget about it and go for the CL kit! I've never used a 90 on a RF before - should be interesting!

Hi,
Fungus can be cleaned. But, if it sat there too long the acids it produce will etch the glass. This etching can't be repaired.
I just had a rolleicord with fungus cleaned. the glass is etched a little. Luckily it is on the edge and does not affect the picture in any way.
Cheers,
Michiel Fokkema
