My favorite 'Cron is the DR. I like to have the additional closeup capability unless I expecct to need the speed of my 50 mm f 1.4 non-Leitz lens. The story of this lens is unusual, too. When my former e,ployer colsed the old photo lab, an unmatched set of the eyes went home with me.I bought a DR 'cron without the eyes at a camera show. The pair work well.
Cheers,
JustPlainBill

My favorite is the rigid in no small part because it's the only 50 cron I own or have used, but also because I love the way it draws.....Peter

I have the Summicron DR and I love it very much. My piano has the honour of being the first subject to be photographed with this lens.

So we all agree; it is the DR/rigid Summicron, as they seem to be optically identical lenses.

The DR renders images with 3D character. It somehow makes the subject(s) 'pop'. I know this example may not be the best but just trying to illustrate what I mean with my limited skills. Just my 2 cents worth.

I do dearly love my collapsible on my CL. Fits into a coat pocket real nicely & that's important when on the road learning to drive big trucks.

William

Interesting, William. Do you like the collapsible 50 better than the 40 it originally came with? And if so, why? Reason I ask is because, based on your comment about pocketability, the 40 meets that objective quite nicely. So what else is there about the collapsible 50 that you prefer (assuming that you do prefer it over the 40)? Or is it just because the topic of this thread is favorite 50s?

Thanks,
Randy

I've already answered Tom by PM, but for everyone else here's what I had to say:
Yes, I use my 50/2 on my CL. There isn't much room left when it's collapsed but it's enough... I asked DAG about it when I had him doing the CLA it needed when I bought it and he said to go ahead. Apparently it will hang up on a M5 meter arm, but it does work just fine on my CL. Cameras vary so you may wish to carefully test yours before just tossing it in your pocket, but I have no worries about mine anymore.
William

Well this thread and the above quoted replies made me look at eBay today and lo and behold a collapsible 50 with what I think is a decent price ($225) came up, I pressed BIN so I'm eagerly awaiting a collapsible summicron for my CL.
I was saving up money for a 40mm Summicron or Rokkor to match the CL but LBA kicked in for me.
I really have to sell some other stuff now.

William and others who have the 40 'cron and the 50 collapsible 'cron- can you guys post/show what the size difference between the 2 are? I currently have a 28/3.5 skopar but was waiting/saving for a 40 or 50 'cron for a 2 lens outfit. Hopefully the copy I have will collapse into my CL.

Guess my vote will be for the collapsible 'cron but I'll wait for it to arrive before I cast my vote.
