Let's end the year by sharing which photo is your favourite of all the photos you've taken in 2016 - and why.

Please don't confuse this with 'your best photograph', although it might well be.. I think 'favourite' is the more interesting choice!

I’ll start the thread off with my favourite:

Hurry up and get it over with, I want to go home
Rollei 35S APX100 in Rodinal

This is my favourite for its dark humour in broad daylight.. the mother standing impatiently as if waiting for the eldest sibling to dispatch the youngest with a s p a d e, while the middle sibling calmly prepares the plot to bury the body! 🙂

So hard to choose just one favourite but I guess this one I took while wandering the streets of Xi'an, China in May. In retrospect, I wish I'd exposed the film a little more to further reveal the face of the child's father behind the steam, but I guess it turned out ok as is 🙂

I took this photo last month at Kampong Khleang, one of the floating villages at Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia. The genuine smiles and youthful innocence were heartwarming, yet I couldn't help but feel some sadness for their current living conditions and what's likely to be a difficult future as they grow up.

I shot a few films during my stay in Poland last summer. There are a few pictures that i could label them as my 'favourite' for 2016.

I choose this one thought, there is something about togetherness and separation at the same time, both in touch but at the same time outside each other's field of vision.

A fun, but tough question. It's inevitably, going to be a photo from one of my favorite times during the year but there were so many good ones this year I didn't find it easy to choose. But I settled on this one:

That evening was something else. Well, morning really, and late morning at that -- part of an all night gypsy jazz jam with some absurdly talented musicians and a few other people who quickly bonded into a tight if fleeting clique for a series of all night escapades in the days following this photo. And I see, in this photo, some of the exhaustion and bliss I felt just then.

I became a grandfather this year so have been taking roll after roll of little Tilly. She will be the most photographed baby ever 🙂

Of the hundreds already taken, this one has a special feel to it. Shot on Foma 200, it has a certain old school charm to it. Printed nicely too.

Not technically a good shot but my favourite of this year. During our visit to Canada in July, we saw three black bears on different occasions. This was the closest encounter. I have learnt over the years, to not beat myself up at failing to get a good shot of a wild animal. To see an animal like this (from the safety of our car) was a real treat!

Like others, this isn't my best photo but it is my favourite. It represents some good memories and a time in my life when I finally overcame some problems with anxiety I'd had since being a child (still a way to go!).

My favorite picture of 2016 is one of my father's handshake, hours before he died. I'm not showing it here. It's still too personal.

I'm very sad of losing him, but it was a firm handshake and I like to think he sent me on my way with empowerment. I have that in the bank, to invest in my future once the effing burnout clears up...

This is my choice for the year. Taken on Ilford HP5+ with an Olympus Mju ii. I am delighted with the way it has handled exposure on a harsh light day and the shadows are open and full of detail. I also like how the sculpture, although originally unpopular, has weathered over 20 or so years and now fits in perfectly.

My son and a photograph I took of my guru in the 1970s. Two of the best things that ever happened to me.

This was a revealing exercise. Looking through my 2016 archive I found many that I considered strong photographs, but few that resonated with personal meaning. There could be a 2017 resolution hidden in that revelation.

Good idea for a thread Lynn. My favourite of the year is two French girls I met in Australia setting off on a ride back home overland. Their spirit of adventure shines.

I took a bunch of family photos back in August. I told the young gal that I was going to use a lens (a fisheye) that would make a person's face look "funny." She leaned forward about a foot from the camera/lens and I took this pic. Leica M240 with Canon FD15mm fisheye.

I like it because in this shot everything comes together what I like in photography.

Happy New Year everybody.

Leica M5, Summilux 35mm f/1.4 v1, 400-2TMY.

This was one of my favorites from the forum this year. Interesting architecture and a great shot of a working man in his prime... washing windows!
