I guess my favourite of 2017 is this one of my daughter.

There is an alternative version, more poignant in tone, which I also like. I was also tempted to choose one of my spring landscapes (such as this one) as I find, as I get older, that I am increasingly aware of how important that season is to me (and how few we ever get to enjoy in a lifetime).

My favorites always seem to be of my kids. Most any will do. This one was taken Friday. Both live in distant towns. One left yesterday, the other leaves tomorrow. A piece of the heart always breaks off and follows them.

We had a lot of fun on a bright sunny day in the stadium.

2017 was very productive for me, got a few pictures i like. This is one of them - i like the contradiction between inanimate objects and feelings.

My niece Emma going to a prom.
Very independent and spunky and the family is finally embracing her assertive independence.
Has been my favorite young person since, at 5 years old, she enjoyed sharing my plate of calamari (!!).

What an iconic moment is that. The dude, whose face we can't quite see, is a very lucky fellow! Either he will be reminiscently looking back on as a turnkey of his life, or lamenting the passing of a possibility never realized future, that we (and he) does not yet know ....

I have one favourite as well as a few runners-up, all taken during a long cross-country road trip I did earlier in the year.

This is probably my favourite, taken in late March in Colorado. I was driving from New Mexico up to the Pacific Northwest, and crossed briefly into Colorado. I passed by this auto parts junkyard, and this scene was on top of one of their buildings. It looked quite apocalyptic to me, particularly with the heavy cloud cover in the sky. I had to look at it from a number of angles before I was happy with the arrangement of the elements:

This was on the same trip, just outside Cody, Wyoming. Very odd to find a Bob's Big Boy statue in the middle of nowhere!

This was taken in Tucumcari, New Mexico -- it reminded me of 'the eyes of Dr. Eckleburg' from the book, The Great Gatsby, although this one has a lot more eyes watching you!

This is also in Tucumcari (actually on the outskirts). I've been trying to get this shot 'right' for the last three years. Every time I happen to be near it, either the light isn't right or something just doesn't quite work. This time around I think I got it. Definitely not how I imagined 'paradise' to be:
