Your Photos FTH (from the hip)

Shooting from the hip is pointless. It takes absolutely no skill to do it and I believe that you've actually removed yourself from the photographing process by doing it.

Thank goodness no-one told George Eastman that when he decided to sell the first (viewfinderless) Kodak - just imagine where photography would be now!

If you want to chuck grenades thats fine, I would rather aim down sights. And I don't see how Eastman figuring out how to save money has to do with taking a picture!

Hmmm ... I see a goat and a sheep ... but no pigs!

Incidentally the goat's name is Jaffa and the sheep is called Minty ... I thought you needed to know this. :D

I'd posted some police officers directly before Jaffa and Minty, and Minty looked a bit sheepish to me ... btw is minty to be served rare? like they do on e-bay

it's more about acquiring a different skill, with lots of practice and feedback.
this can be the venue for help.
it's rather difficult to take 25 out of 36 hip shots and only get 4 to 5 near the perfect.

It's a technique (among many others).
Therefore just like any other techniques, how much skill you want to develop in using it, is up to you.

i used to shoot FTH literally.. quite a lot when i got reacquainted with film some time back..

please forgive the oversaturated following pic with the green tinge.. but this is one of my first few FTH pics and my fav one too (less the colors)

is this X Processed?
i like it. nice SS choice.

I find 50mm is bit too long for the hip shot. Sometimes it does not cover whole picture I envisioned to capture. I believe it is a necessary technique when 'intrusion' may disturb the scene.

Possibly silly question, but have any of you considered putting a bubble level on your cameras to facilitate composing without use of a viewfinder?
