Japanese Cosina website lists hood LH-6 for both lenses.

Shall we start a pool on what this lens will cost? With as many participants as this thread has we could sell 100 squares at $5.75 a pop and somebody would win enough for a free lens. (Just kidding :angel:.)
 
I only ask because my 40 came with a LH-5, or at least that is what the box says. What's the difference between an LH-5 and LH-6?

Wow, this looks interesting indeed. Feel itching GAS symptoms all over. 😀 😀

Cosina and Zeiss continue to impress with their smart niche strategy, wich includes the relative recent launches of the excellent ZM 18 and ZM 21/4.5.
As a Leica fan, I must admit that their Summarit line "move" looks dull in comparison - no GAS on my side whatsoever! 😡

Let's hope that either Cosina or Zeiss have also one up their sleeve as far as a digital RF is concerned.

I have the LH-5 hood for my 40mm Nokton as well. I'm looking at the Japanese Cosina website - both the 40mm Nokton and 35mm Nokton pages show the LH-6 hood as the proper accessory, priced at 6000 yen.

But if you look on the accessory page it shows only the LH-5 hood as the dedicated unit for the 40mm Nokton - and for just 4500 yen. No new LH-6 hood is listed. This LH-6 hood is going to have to be pretty spectacular and exotic to justify a 33% price increase over the LH-5!

Stephen, Tom A? Can either of you shed some light here? Will the LH-5 fit the new lens?

Marc - your price is with VAT, right? That's US$660-$730 at today's shameful exchange rate.

If it is priced at $600 or over here in the US it is likely that I will give it a pass.
 
Prices will be set next...eh later this week. Voigtlander has not provided info on this lens to the distributors yet, so it appears likely the web info went up prematurely.

Cosina does not make new lens hoods until there is a reason for it, so you can be sure the 35/1.4 takes the new LH-6 hood, not the LH-5 which presumably would vignette.

Expected shipping date from CQ mid to late Feb.

I am planning to buy three of these. One for everyday use. One in a box at home in case I lose the one I am using. One in the bank for future generations. Maybe a fourth one in bank somewhere offshore, in case there is a nuclear attack here. I figure, even with four, it is stilll cheaper than the leica summilux.

Using that (and the same correlation for the 15mm) as a guide, I'd expect the 1.4/35 to be c$455.

Of course you'll need to double that number because you'll want both SC and MC versions.....

Me for one...

By buying secondhand as much as possible, I've bought a whole slew of CV lenses for my M8 for less than the price of one Noctilux. My intention was to keep the CV lenses long enough to determine which focal lengths I used the most and then to buy the equivalent Leica lens. However, I've found that the CV lenses to be so good that I'm sticking with them. The only Leica 'M' lens I own is the 65/3.5 Elmar for the Visoflex.

I have GOT to dig up my 35 Asph. Lux v. 40 Nokton example pics. (The disc is unlabeled and hiding somewhere on my desk!) I'll bet you the price of this new lens that nine times out of ten you can't tell them apart....

Why is it that Leica faults and aberrations are "character" but VC faults and aberrations are a "flaw?"
 
i am very happy that CV made this lens (i will not buy it of course because i dont have that money but i am happy to see rf community happy and alive) - because it has everything rf lens need - it is compact and it is fast. i think that with this CV will become leader of rf world. leica have summarits but with it they dont offer anything new (i think that after m8 it is another nail in leica coffin) , zeiss have superb lens quality (as i saw from many photos online they are waaay ahead of leica nowdays) but its lens line up is rarely refreshed. But CV is alive and kicking - they have courage to try new things, to experiment - now they are leading the game. They dont allow opponents to rest - if others want to stay alive they must make something interesting soon - and that means more interesting designs in near future. 🙂

I suppose a 35mm hood on a 40mm lens is acceptable, but with the price increase I'd be inclined to spin the LH-5 on my lathe and take off 1/16" at a time until the vignetting goes away 😉
 
Don't you just love the way Mr K makes all these new lenses look almost exactly the same - so that our wives won't notice that we got another one. That's smart marketing.

I'm thinking that in the past Mr K has avoided going head to head with Leica - all the CV's have had different FL/aperture combinations from Leica lenses but perhaps feels that Leica have broken the unspoken agreement with the new Summarits (3 of the 4 being quite similar to previous CV lenses). If the gloves really are off now then the 35mm f1.4 would be the logical first step and perhaps we can expect some other "LeicaKillers" soon. I'd love to see a CV 75mm f2 or 50mm f1.4(or 1.2?) in M mount.

I don't think there's any doubt that the 35mm f1.4 Nokton will be a huge hit although personally I doubt I'll bother as I'm happy enough with a 35mm Summicron (film) and a 40mm Nokton (my M8's "50mm").

I suspect that, for those of us who will use the 35/1.4 on an M8, with its 1.33 reduction factor, the LH5 will actually be the more suitable hood.
