Leica M9 Enhanced

Looks like porn to me. Aren't there laws against camera abuse? Someone from Solms should show up soon to take it away from whoever treats it this way.

They are afraid of scratching the paint.

If you see this camera on Ebay in a few years, grab it. Get the tape and residue off, the finish will be perfect.

Indeed. Not an entirely bad idea when one considers the inherently transitory nature of digital cameras. I've taken to strategically taping my hexar just because I know how that paint behaves.

...is must be one of those Solms à la carte options

I ran into a young guy here the other day that had black tape all over his M9, albeit a little less than this one :bang: I know its personal but I just don't get it...

From the linked article:

http://tokyocamerastyle.com/post/1105635781/shinjuku-leica-m9-with-35mm-summicron

"He explained that since the M9 isn’t suited for humid and tropical environments (he said he had been shooting in Hong Kong for the past month) it was necessary to tape up the body like this to keep the moisture out. That, and the more it looks like a beat up old vintage camera (and not a state of the art $10,000 digital Leica rig), the better for shooting out on the streets."

I thought the a la carte option was the relic look that Fender applies / subjects to new guitars making them appear old. For the M9 it would be the Jim Marshall brassing effect. Tape, we don't need no estinkin' tape....

This guy lives and shoots in HK with an M9 K_iwi; dont think any extended humidity of that level is going to be an issue, especially with returning to an air-conditioned environment after shooting. I agree the tape makes the camera look like crap but I think the only people that would really take any notice are people that know what an M8/9 is to begin with.

Humidity will still get in around the lens mount, never seen the point in protecting digital cameras like that as in about five years time they will not be worth that much even if the paint work is perfect.

Depends on the camera, I guess.

Fuji F30s are still selling for 150 EUR over here, which, after almost five years, is like 60% of what they cost when they were available new.

Epson R-D1s still sell for 1500 to 2000 USD (see e.g. 180542689576 on eBay), which is 50-60% of what they cost new six years ago. Only now are they starting to drop, as M8s trickle down into the used market. Not bad at all in my book!

could be I remember when I bought my first canon 1d maybe six years ago cost £4000 you can pick them up for a couple of hundred now!
Maybe leicas or m mount cameras hold their value better.

Love it!

Love it!

I love it and would do the same if I could afford an M9. That's a camera built for mileage AND resale.

What's unfortunate is that in the past I've never considered resale as a part of my purchase decisions. This stuff is so much freakin money now that IMHO, since the M7 forward M's have become too precious and frequent without an equivalent "user" marketplace for the faster evolving electronic cameras of today. Is it possible to build a user system and take advantage of the digital age without the deep deep pockets?

I know, I know.... scan film.:bang:
