When traveling the smaller Sony ICF-SW1 accompanied me often.As a child, I was fascinated by the radio scale on our Philips radio. Many moons later, when working internationally, including in countries without TV -or, sometimes without electricity, I'd listen to my then super sophisticated Sony shortwave radio: ICF-SW77 (LW/MW/SW/FM PLL Synthesized Stereo Receiver) / Gallery / Sony Design / Sony Thirty years on, it still works, and I still listen to it: "this is the BBC World Service". Mine came with an 8-meter (?) cord you could roll on a spool. The cord would always get stuck on the spool.A metal Gitzo monopod served as a good extra antenna on balconies to get away from sources of interference in hotels.
