What have you just BOUGHT?

This week I bought a Nikon AF TC-16A 1.6x teleconverter, thinking I'd be able to use it in MF mode with my MF nikons and MF nikon/Tamron lenses, but it seems it was only designed for the F501 and to be used in a weird "you set the general focus distance and the TC fine tunes the focus" way. Over £60 at risk of disappearing if the seller won't refund it as there's actually nothing wrong with it except the silly design.

What is the camera you intend to use the TC 16A on? I have two of them and are able to use them successfully on F90, F90x and F4s. They will not work without modification with Digital cameras except D2 apparently. Take a look here. Nikon TC-16A AF-Teleconverter

C'mon now, it's not a silly design, let's be fair now, it's just that you're just trying to use in a way it wasn't intended to be used, it confuses a lot of people so you're not the first, you can use it as an MF convertor but it's messy and with MF, that's what the TC-14A/B are for.

It does work with my D2X as well. [Nikkor QC 135/2.8]

I bought two Leica MR meters that were priced well, one an MR and the other an MR4. The MR4 is working and seems accurate even without the MR9 battery adapter in it. The better exterior condition MR meter has been an adventure to get working.

It didnt have battery corrosion, but I cleaned the insides the meter started working The meter reading that is matching the MR meter but with issues. I can get it partially working with an SR44 silver oxide, but more often than not, it refuses to meter. Then I slip in an Alkaline LR44 battery and it reads and matches the exposure values on the MR meter. However the battery test function is also flakey and causes it to stop metering. May need to do more cleaning on it and checking all the contacts as I got the battery check to work when it was taken part, but when its put back together it doesn't seem to work and causes the meter to not work unless I remove the battery.

Oh the battery cover design is horrible on those meters.

YES, YES, YES to the comment about the battery cover! Though I picked a nice black MR4 a short while back that was spares or repair, and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately I have about four in various states of disrepair.

Technically not something I just bought, but just received from a Kickstarter pledge last July.

Zebra developing tanks for 4x5 and 8x10 inch. Very happy to have received those. They are PLA printed, of course light and fluid tight, with metal clasps, the 4x5 inch holds 6 sheets of film for developing, the 8x10 inch holds 4 sheets of film. Each has a press on funnel to pour fluids included, those are similar size so no hassle there.

Very excited to have these, I have an Intrepid 8x10 inch with a few lenses that I intended to use for some time now but the hassle of developing sheets one by one in open trays so far put me off. Now there's no excuse to load that camera up and go shoot it!

I'm just wondering if other AF teleconverters can be used with MF cameras and lenses?

An FM2n and an F301. I know it says "AF" on it, but I thought that as many AF lenses can be used on MF cameras, it would just be a case of bunging it on the camera and then putting a lens on it.

OK you are not going to be using it as it was intended. It's intended use was on early Nikon AF cameras converting the plethora of MF lenses to AF. It works as designed but certainly not to modern AF efficiency but it works. As I said I use two on F90, F90x and F4s, I have a number of none Nikon MF preset lenses with which they work and work well. Using the TC-16A on Nikon MF cameras it will work as a 1.6x teleconverter but you must set it up. Leon C has given you the relevant details, so will not be £60:00 wasted but if you were hoping for an AF function on a MF camera its not going to work.

Dear Plexi,

If you would be so kind as to post a review of the meter after a few uses, I'm sure it would be welcomed by more people than just me! 😉

It someone else has already reviewed here on RFF then I'll have to look for it. I'd like to get a smaller modern light meter that does everything and doesn't cost a bunch of money. The Lumo seems it will fit that requirement.

Just bought a lovely Summicron 50mm f2 Dual Range in what I want to say is mint condition (as regards the lens but not the goggles which have a crack in one of the glasses). it also came with its original hood, still in pretty much original pristine condition - though the one seen in this photo is the later vented hood which I think is a little more effective as a means of shielding the glass). The crack in the goggles is of no particular concern to me as I was very happy with the price and needless to say also with the overall condition of the lens itself. And BTW it is also boxed as you see! It was sold on consignment through a local camera store where I was told that the previous owner had it from new. It reminded me of the proverbial second-hand car being sold and bought - "One owner, an old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays." Only this time this description seems near to the truth if appearances and the feel of it in my hand are anything to go by.

In 1997 my father, who had Hungarian heritage, wanted me to accompany him back to the old country to meet family and see the land of his birth. Which I did. In the course of that trip I found a Summicron 50mm f2 DR much like this in condition, in the famous Ecseri Flea Market inside a small permanent shop selling camera gear. It was in very similar condition to this one, though without goggles. I used it for a decade or so but when I switched to digital (my first "real" serious digital camera being an M8), I sold it to help fund that purchase when I realized that this Summicron could not mount and function properly on Leica's then digital offerings including the M8. I never fully foresaw the mirrorless revolution coming down the turnpike. I always regretted the sale, so finding this beauty was cathartic, especially given the circumstances of me finding the previous one in Budapest with my father present (he had since passed). I dare say it will get "some" use! 🙂

P.S. As you might see from the photo attached, I also have a "Lens, Light Lab" helicoid adapter for Leica M to Leica L mount. The thought suddenly occurs that this could afford me the opportunity to try "double close focus" by manually actuating the lens' close focus mechanism (without the goggles) as well as by using the helicoid adapter's close focus. Though I seldom take close up images the thought is a little intriguing.

Yesterday I bought a Voigtälnder 21mm f3.5 Color-Skopar Vintage Line Aspherical (Type I) VM lens.

I'll take it out today and see what I can do with it. Should be fun!
Great lens. Be sure to try it on your GFX. In 1:1 mode it has the same FOV as the SWC. In 65:24 mode it is the same FOV as the xPan with the 45mm.

The Ricoh GRiv monochrome camera and a microSD card. I've wanted a Ricoh GR for a long time and have been looking at the Ricoh GRiii and the newer standard GRiv. The GRiv monochrome ticked off two of the things I wanted, though at a premium price over the standard version of the camera. But monochrome, built in red filter, insanely high iso range, cool grain effects and styles; 5-axis, 6x image stabilization as in the standard version. And it goes everywhere, easily! Pre-ordered one, expected to ship around the end of this month.
