28mm Summicron ASPH Photos

I decided to dedicate this summer to getting more comfortable with the 28mm. Some of my favorite photographers used 28mm, but I struggle with it even though I often like the results. Picked up a V1 Summicron asph the other day and LOVE it. It will be paired up with a 50mm for most of the summer. Here are a few shots just messing around in the couple hours I had it yesterday. These are on the MP240, but will hopefully get it onto my M6 very soon.

I've enjoyed the thread. Very nice pics. Wondering how much 'better' the Leica Summicron or the 2.8 Elmarit are vs. the Zeiss Biogon 2.8/28mm... Price wise, they should be about two to four times 'better' or, otherwise, interesting.

I have something of a love-hate relationship with the lens. It is very well behaved, with a relatively flat plane of focus, and it has near uniform sharpness over the entire image even wide open. The ergonomics are also excellent. But the f2 aperture is limiting in low light with film, and it is a lens that imparts little to the image to really justify the price tag.

I think I know what you mean. It has a very neutral feeling to it. Sometimes I want that “signature” to a lens as well, which is why I actually carry a 50mm Sonnar with it usually. I do tend to like it for a couple reasons
1. The contrast is very manageable in both film and digital
2. It’s very ergonomic, at least to me
3. By being “neutral” or “clean”, I think it becomes very malleable in post production.
4. It flares very little compared to my v3 Elmarit

I find it very useful for a 28mm for those reasons.

So, I actually thought this lens was stolen out of my bag at work but I held off filing an insurance claim for about 2 months or so. On the first day of our covid19 distancing I was cleaning my painting studio and found a small canon pouch. I almost didnt even open it, but I did...and ALAS! There was my Summicron!! Its been mostly glued to my MP240 since. Heres a few from the backyard. Not much subject matter other than my son, but while looking at some Sam Abell books while he played, it inspired me to try a couple things.

Edit: Ooops, just noticed after I posted that this is for film cameras with the 28mm Summicron. This photo was done with that lens but on an M9 I think. I would delete if I could but there doesn't seem to be a delete option. Feel free to do so.
