Those vertical lines look more like perspective distortion than barrel distortion.

how could that be? the stripes are not supposed to be curved.

here's another test-shot.

but again: it really depends on what kind of pictures you are taking.
it's a great low light lens and most low-light subject are people-shots - so no problem there.

The stripes are horizontal lines and they show some obvious barrel distortion. I am talking about the straight vertical lines like the lamp post. I by no means am an expert.
