50mm on an R4M - anyone using this focal length?

After checking my results from today I would advise against fast fifties on the R4A and the Sonnar with it's focus shift in particular is not suited to this camera IMO.

When it was right it was superb but the margin for error with the Zeiss is miniscule and for me the rangefinder mechanism and magnification is not up to the task with this lens.

An f2 50mm may not be an issue and would probably have a far better hit rate ... and the 50mm frame lines for portraits or street shooting are a compromise at best!

No. The 21mm frames go to the edge just like the 40mm on the R3A.
By the way I thought EVF stood for "Electronic ViewFinder"? I presume you meant an accessory or supplementary OVF optical viewfinder?

EVF = external view finder.. Can be completely optical, and is not necessarily electronic.

Is a CV 15mm lens usable on R4 without a EVF? The whole VF is an approximate of which focal length?

That's the only way I do it: it's like composing with most SLR's... You get in your negative a little bit more than what you see in camera. I prefer this to an external finder... R4's finder is 17mm.

I use ZM 50/2 Planar on R4M at f2. No problem.

Why not get a Canon 7s with the 50mm f/1.4? Brilliant lens, nice camera with 1:1 finder, and it's not too heavy either.

Well eh, the 7D's real (!) VF magnification is really closer to 1:2 then 1:1.
