ADOX new englarger

Via ADOX Facebook page I see they came out with a multiformat enlarger. It comes with at least 3 different film holders and it is described as a "double condenser" enlarger. They are asking just under 200 euros for it. I'm seriously considering it because I typically shoot 35mm and 120 6x6. It seems a pretty we'll thought out enlarger.

This will be my first darkroom set up. I'll only be printing B&W.

What do the more seasoned darkroom gnomes think about this?

Looks like a very basic design, quite old-school. If you're serious about the darkroom I suggest looking for a higher-grade enlarger on the used market. Don't know about where you are, but in the States you can't give darkroom equipment away and there are amazing deals to be had.

A good enlarger should have a solid support and the means to adjust the lens and negative stage for alignment. Also, double condenser-type illumination has the tendency to give higher contrast and less subtle tones in the print and will show negative flaws like dust and scratches much more than a diffuser or cold-light setup.

Pretty amazing that they would come out with a new enlarger at this point in history.

I should point out that for less than that price I got a used B & W enlarger in very good condition with a good lens, so I agree with Saul.

Excellent news indeed - this clearly proves the analog photography is not fully dead afterall but showing clear signs of stabilizing and finding it's own niche.

Looks alike a Krokus-enlarger which was built since I don't know when in former Czechoslovakia. I used one years ago for a long time, a very reliable and simple "machine" for max. 6x6 cm negs.

I'm 99,9% sure, that this is a rebranded version of the Paterson Universal enlarger.

At least for those, who I usually call "serious hobbyist" (for the lack of a better word), this seems to be true. See the last paragraph in this article.

I just got a Saunders 6700 with color head, which will do 35mm or medium format. But you need to get the appropriate negative carrier.

Many other makes will also accommodate a range of negative sizes.

Exactly. Nothing new here except the box. Still, they must be getting enough inquiries to make them think it was worth doing.

OP: look for a Beseler 23C. Two girders, very solid, does up to 6x9. And being given away. Or the Omega B22.
