Keith,
Back in the late seventies I was a NYC cab driver because I had a death wish. Life kinda sucked, but I also kinda found out that it's accually pretty hard to kill yourself. I was a pretty angry kid who suffered great depressions, but I learned to process and release my anger. Back in the seventies I was a scary guy.
Right now NYC I would say is the safest big city on the planet.
Cal
Yep. I would certainly agree with that!

Keith,
One thing back then was that there really wasn't a police presence, laws were not enforced, and basically it was a free for all. I know that on the street you had to be either kinda crazy looking or physically intimidating to avoid problems. A lot of street fighting just kinda happened.

Unfortunately, it looks like as long as I work for big orange, Sundays are going to be out for me. Weekends are "all hands on deck" there so Sunday RFF meets are out for the forseeable future. Unless, I get an early morning shift or a closing shift. We'll see. Tentatively, my regular day off is Thursday and then one or two other days during the week.
One of these days I need to get over to Kearny, NJ to shoot some of that crumbling infrastructure along the Hackensack river. Now that I have the D2Hs, I need to get a monopod so I can start shooting IR urban scenes.
I don't have my schedule for the next few weeks yet but I expect the 21st will be a work day. Oh well. I need to find a better job! Until then, I'll keep on keepin' on.

Yeah, it is. And I'm fortunate, I know. I have my second lecture at Brown coming up on the 23rd, which I'm looking forward to.
I have a shoot coming up this weekend for a prominent NYC magazine, so in spite of the burglary, work is still turning up and I'm still shooting. As far as I'm concerned, life is good even though scheduling may be a bit of a PITA.

Phil,
Its a hard life trying to earn a living with photography. Call me a HO or a lazy slacker, but having a stable yet boring day job is a lot less stress. A thing to worry about is when you get old and tired. I've had enough stress in my life, and now I'm kinda shot.
Anyways in many ways photography is keeping me alive.

Joe,
On the weekends its not uncommon to not hear from the NYC group. Maybe shoot a PM to John or one of the other active folks who regularly post on weekends?
PM me for my cell phone #.
I wish I could make the meeting but I'm working that day. If you have free time Tuesday, Thursday or Friday I could personally meet with you in the city somewhere.

Nice weather, I'm heading downtown. I'm on the lookout for a guy with an oversized Nikon, and a guy with a Fuji and a black hat.
Have Technika, will travel.
