Camera and Coffee

If you don't acquire any new gear one way of being able to post in this thread is to have frequent makeovers!:)

Hey Gman!!!!

Trius, the Konica's meter is on the lens. Just cover it with a lens cap to shut off.

My Gossen digisix reads in EV's too, so that's not a problem. In fact, I may just use it without batteries (one of the reasons I like the SP, GIII, Auto S2 and others).

I have another SP with a stock (not recalibrated to 1.5v) meter. On that, hearing aid batteries are ok, because they will run out with time and not with amount of use.

Ray: You're right on the Konica. I don't use the cap much, but I do keep in a Domke bag most of the time. On the 35SP if you keep the camera in a case, it turns off battery drain. With current zinc air cells, it really doesn't have an effect. If it's converted to 1.5 silver, then that's a way to avoid battery drain. But it's still not as convenient as gman's soon-to-be-designed micro-switch. ;-)

Interesting gear talk in here... and coffee too!

I only had one camera with me at Starbucks the other day... Here's a picture of my favorite barista, Emily making my cappuccino...

Pherdi ! Nice to 'hear' from you !!!

So you've got a new digital camera to take your cam + coffee shots eh ? :p I'm not sure I like the surrealism of its imagery though :D

Pherdi,
Next time set the Digital to Maximum Resolution, and not Fractal Compression Mode. Memory is cheap, you do not have to worry about getting 1,000,000 shots on a 64MByte Card.

In fact i made hundreds of photos with the 'flesx, the super ikonta and the minolta slr (ultrawides) but they are still not developed, and i have no access to a scanner for a few more weeks. So i had to find something else to upload;)

Funny, this POV-ray software. The number of possibilities and tricks are inexhaustible. E.g. it is possible to simulate DOF as thin as one wants... takes lotsa computing time but looks pretty cool...
I use the software for some images in my thesis, but i couldn't resist to do some useful stuff as well.

Greetings to all!

PS: i have no GAS at all!
PS2: these oldies are pretty popular over here in eastern europe. Noone thought that the Rolleiflex is digital, though!

These cameras arrived in the mail today from Henry Scherer. The Contax IIa with 35mm f/3.5 Planar is among the last three hundred made (from 1961) and the Contax I with 50mm f/3.5 Tessar (collapsible) is from 1933. The Contax I is in true mint condition without a scatch or mark anywhere to be found; the camera did not work properly when it left the Zeiss factory in 1933 and the owner never bothered to have it repaired. Henry found an improperly installed film advance part and a wad of torn film jamming the advance mechanism; if not for this mishap the camera most likely would not have survived in this condition. Now I get to put the first scratch on it :D. The original leather case has even survived in "like new" condition -- it's like a step back in time.

both cameras and the photograph are just gorgeous.

i like the simple black background and lighting too.

man, i would kill for a canon p in like condition.

Thanks, Joe. I hope I didn't cross the line and plagiarize any of your fine work but I must admit, and give credit where due, that I was inspired by some of your camera shots when I set this up tonight.

Nice set of Contax's. Did you know that it was in the last batch before getting it, or was it a happy surprise? I ended up with the 219th Nikon S2 and one of the last chrome S2's by dumb luck. The First and the Last.

Brian,
In a way both were dumb luck but definitely the IIa. No, I didn't have a clue and didn't even want the camera -- I bought it to get the Planar and after it was sitting around I became curious about some different markings (a fellow RFF member alerted me). The "I" didn't attract much attention on eBay because it was not working; I took a chance that Henry could revive it.

My, those are both beautiful, but that Contax I is amazing. I can not even begin to imagine spending the kind of money that it and that Tessar set someone back and not getting it working.

Still, I know you'll use it so it will finally see the "light of day" and do it's job. It's good to know it's in good hands.

Honu: I'm officially jealous! Very nice photo, and I applaud your good fortune in acquiring those lovely babies.

Speed Graphic with Tessar

Speed Graphic with Tessar

While testing an amazingly bad P&S to see if it would work well enough to let my three year old waste a roll or two of cheap Walgreens film in it, I decided to take a couple of shots of my baby. Nothing as fancy as the wonderful shot of the Contaxes, but here they are anyway :p The first one actually has the Ektar mounted and there are two sheets of Tmax 400 in the patterson style tank. The other two do show the old Tessar.

Excellent,William!!! Beautiful camera and a cup in every shot. Having a camera large enough to hold a coffee cup has its obvious advantages :). Have you posted anything from it yet?

Yep, the cup sits right up there just fine :D There are a couple of images in this thread http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11036 I'm hoping to burn the rest of my FP4+ tomorrow when I go to my family's farm to pick up the four chickens for my backyard coop.

Front and center is a Tenax II with 40/2.8 Tessar, to the right with finder is a 27/4.5 Orthometar, remaining two are 40/2 Sonnar. These will soon be lost in the abyss known as Henry Scherer's waiting list :D. The cup honors New Orleans...my thoughts and prayers remain with the citizens.
