Not new cameras, but my trusty Bessa-T w/75 mm Color-Heliar and Oly Stylus Epic with coffee during a recent family vacation in Colorado --- and a photograph of the Alpine Tundra area (about 12,000 feet above sea level), taken during that trip with the Bessa and 75 mm, Kodak C-41 B & W at 320 EI.

My Leica IIIc arrived from Oleg!!! It has new shutter curtains and everything works so much better. Like silk. And the viewfinder and rangefinder are much brighter. Not any bigger but still brighter. Oleg charged $60. I ran out of money the get the Summitar cleaned. It's in pretty good shape but for a hint of haze. I'm shooting a roll with the Summitar and J8 to compare contrast. I took it down from the shelf a little over two years ago. (It had been a shelf queen since 1976.) Now it's finally a beautiful user. My grandfather had the wisdom to buy a Leitz IROOA lens shade for it. And Greyhoundman's little Sekonic now has a permanent home. And what a nice wrist strap! 🙂 The vulcanite is pretty much perfect and the chrome only shows a hint of pitting in a few spots.

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Now to grind up some of those beans and do some more fondling.

I was out shooting with it today. Sweet! Sweet! Sweet! It fits into my coat pocket with the collapsible Summitar and the sekonic meter. I'm shooting Fuji Superia. I really looking forward to shooting black and white with it. I need to build a darkroom sink first. I already have tanks and reels.

And it is like a family reunion.

Did I say that shooting with it was sweet?

I use the same setup for 35mm B/W shooting, and I like Summitar's "fingerprint" on BW pictures very, very much. I bet you'll like it too.

Shooting with old LTM Leicas could be sweet indeed ! 😎

I know! I've done one with a Mamiya 6 and espresso. Here's another since a year has passed. Shot on the street with a Yashica Electro 35 GSN. The camera in the shot with the double 'short' espresso is also a Yashica Electro 35 GSN. Details are Kodak C41 BW ISO 400 at f 16 on auto. I like the camera and got a good deal on it from our ubiquitous Mr Greyhoundman.

This shot is for him. Sorry tho.... no cigar....

On 4x5 a 127mm lens is equivalent to a 36mm lens on 35mm. A 150mm is equivalent to 42mm. This is per the Angle of View spreadsheet at South Bristol Views. Scroll down the navigation bar to "LF Lens Equivalents". It's a frames site. Big negs are pretty breathtaking.

Sorry, being a Johnny-come-lately here. A normal lens on 4x5 is about 162.5mm, just as normal on 35mm format is about 43.5. So 127mm is actually equivalent to about 34mm, and 150mm is equivalent to about 40mm. The conversion factor is about 3.74. The numbers are rounded off.

That's just field-of-view though. Depth-of-field stays the same regardless of format, so although the 127mm on 4x5 has a slight wide-angle view, the depth-of-field is the same as any other 127mm in any other format.

Thank you the I-50 really made the difference. It was the first of a few large G&T's. I needed them after a long shift 😉

135/3.5 Nikkor and Contax I

135/3.5 Nikkor and Contax I

With all of the recent interest in the 135 lenses here is one that came in the mail yesterday. It is a 135/3.5 Nikkor in Contax mount (engraved "C" on the barrel) with original caps and hood. The camera is a 1933 Contax I which is on an old Zeiss tripod tilt attachment. The turret finder is a Zeiss 436/7 that came in the bakelite "treasure" chest off to the right.

The 135 was a pleasant surprise; I opened the package with a huge grin 😉, the lens and all of the pieces do look like new -- it was more than I expected.
