Camera and Coffee

Wow, the Iskra is a phenomenal camera, you should love the Iskra part dva. It is a great little camera, amazing that it can get such a big neg in such a small package. As for the meter, Quality Light Metric repairs selenium meters if that is what is in it.

By the way, where did you find it? I found my Iskra in a flea market on the outskirts of Talinn, Estonia. I had asked around at a few of the shops and one of the guys there heard me (I was speaking russian...) and he said: "My friend has an Iskra over at his stall at the X market. I'll take you there." So he takes me to his beat up old car, speeds me to the market, puts me in touch with Oleg, the guy running the used camera kiosk. 50 euro later I have a fully working Iskra with a 1 year guarantee from a friendly Russian living in Estonia. THE END.

Well, here is one I took this afternoon. There is a local cafe here in Sapporo that has a scandinavian design theme. The place is fantastic. It has great food, great ambience and they even have Garry Winogrand books for you to read (or Fellinni if cinema is a pleasure). The prices are not bad at all either. It is a called Jetset. I took this shot of the Jetset looking stealth MP with my new (30 year old) Hasselblad 500c/m and 80/2.8. I love the hasselblad, the tonality is just fantastic. This is a digital photo of the neg, so it is not nearly as good as a scan or print would be. The beverage is a very tasty iced coffee that I just poured the cream into...it did not get quite the effect I was hoping for though.

Yeah, since I am in Japan, i don't have a scanner, so I put the DSLR on the tripod, grab the 100mm macro, put the neg on the lightbox and try to fill the frame with it. Lock up the mirror, use a cable release and shoot away. It works plenty well for the web and for evaluating negs, but I would not make any prints from it...

Jon,
As to your question of what to do with the Agfas, I suggest you send one to Jurgen and let him do his magic. I would but he serviced the Isolette I have just a year ago and can't justify sending it back. Works like a charm! I have a Mockba V that I use more often, but the real jewel is the Fuji ca GS645S. I love folders if you couldn't tell, and those with r/fs are just delightful.

I got it on the bay. Just luck that it was an Iskra 2, made in 1964, right in the middle of the run.

Both Isolettes work OK. I would have one of them made over just for the fun of it.

Here is my new (to me) Kiev 4am with my black Jupiter-12 35/2.8 and viewfinder and my Oswego State coffee cup . I just got the camera today (the lens came yesterday) from Wayne Scott and kbg32 here on the forums. I've been rangefinderless since christmas last year, and I felt the bug again... my 10D drives me crazy somedays :bang: :D .

Wouldn't happen to have been in Waterbury Hall by the lake, would it? We're know for our Wednesday night parties here...and I have class at 8am, so I never get to participate :( ... Oh well, booze is the last thing i need to spend money on. It would leave me no money for the really important things in life, like B&W film, coffee and pizza :D .

Great Kiev! It looks like it is in very good shape.

jtzordan -- yes, it is the same Sapporo as the beer. You can visit the factory. I have not taken the tour of the factory itself, but the factory has a big beer hall where they do something called Ghengis Khan -- basically they give you a burner and a bunch of thinly sliced raw lamb along with seasonings and so on. You cook the lamb on the burner and drink lots of beer. It is quite fun.

Frank -- thank you, it is a very slick place. Probably my favorite in Japan. There are several places that are similar, but this place seems to do it best. By the way, this was the egg chair directly behind me:

Oswego!!! Never been there, but that's the home town of Erik Cole, one of the star forwards of the Carolina Hurricanes, my favorite hockey team.

Nice Kiev, BTW. Wish I had one.

This town is big on hockey... too bad the college keeps losing all of their home games that I go and shoot for the newspaper :bang: .

As for the Kiev, it's an 82, and the lens is an 89, so it hasn't been beat all to heck for a long time. The camera is in better physical shape than my 10D, which looks like it was kicked down a flight of stairs.

The Ghengis Khan sounds like a blast! If I ever got there, I would have to find something else to amuse my wife for a while; she won't touch lamb, poor thing.
