Camera and Coffee

yup. love designing/building tube amps, speakers, etc (and of course collecting and listening to records/music!!) i was just wondering the other day if there was a crossover in the hobbies (as i thought there might be). then i saw your post! thanks...good light and happy listening to you as well! you have some beautiful gear (on both fronts)!

Whee!!!!

Whee!!!!

After many false starts and lost auctions, I made a deal with Ikophot that had me mailing him a lens, him paying KEH for a camera body and KEH sending it to me via the Big Brown Truck (BBT? :D ) After many tribulations, the BBT showed up today and I now have in my possession a "Bargain" grade Canon 7. As always with KEH bargains, it's in better shape than many a ebay "minty" camera. There is some dings and scuffs, the eyepiece and the advance lever show brassing, but it is, to my eyes, a very nice looking camera. And at least it wasn't a doggy chew toy somewhere along the way

The meter seems good - between a stop and half a stop different than my VC Meter II but it seems to be consistant so far, so that's easy to live with. The coupling to the shutter speed dial is, well, cute. A good idea, mind, and I like it, it's just that it's cute

I've got a roll in it to check the RF, but at first blush focusing on something gets a range that's right on the lens' scale. As you can see in the one picture, my 1975 Jupiter-12 does fit on the 7 body. It is one heck of a tight fit, but no touching anywhere it shouldn't. Not a lens to be changing after a couple or four pints of focusing fluid. But I expect, knowing my preferences, that the 50/1.8 will be on it 90% of the time anyway.

The finder is amazing. I've used Leicas and perhaps this isn't as good, but it is a couple of light years beyond what I'm used to. The bright lines with lables are easy to see and I can focus fast in what I've tested so far. Though I can see how the lack of a show would really annoy wide angle users fast - 35 really takes up so much of the finder that there isn't much room for faking it for the 28mm lens for example.

That's about all I'll blather about it for now. I'm just really tickled to have it in time for the holidays.

Four of my recent arrivals, combined in a way that will sure get more than one comment from Joe ;)

Bessa-T with Rob's side grip, Leitz 50 1:1 finder and Canon 50/1.2

Canon P with coated Summitar

And Rob's tri-x... is loaded inside the cameras ;)

Oscar, That 50mm F1.2 belongs on the Canon 7.

William, Nice 7!

I end up shooting with the Canon 7 more than any other camera. Also remember that the Meter on the 7 takes in a Big FOV, so the reading may vary from something with a tighter view. It can be calibrated. I did this once. Involves taking off the shutter speed dial, moving the little gear that moves the scale, and then putting the shutter speed dial back on.

I now can find that quite easy to believe. I wonder if our new sponsor makes a half-case that would fit it... :) Then, I think one of Gordy's straps... :bang: goes the wallet :D

That's really good to know information. I've got a 7 service manual that I downloaded from somewhere... I'll print this info and stick it in the same binder.

Thanks!

Truth is I use the 1.2 on the Bessa-T mainly for the 1/2000 top speed, on my Canonator the hightest useable speed is 1/250...

I do the same for the same reason stated above.

Looks like the trim ring is missing inside the front of the 50/2. Makes it look like a stealth version!

Yep Raid, with those lenses and fast lenses it's always a good thing to more speed otions...

Chris, it was one of those lenses that were used in lab equipment with a twin lens, mounted face to face, hence it lacks the front ring.

Going to California tomorrow, heres what Im taking:

Bessa R + Jupiter 3
6 rolls of Neopan 1600
4 rolls of Fuji NPS
and a hood, and a UV filter!

Hmmm... isn't that battery too wide for the bessa? :)

Where in California, Einars? Hope the flights aren't affected by the weather we're having.

I will be flying out to San Diego on Saturday. ;)

No, thats just a battery I have lying around for some reason, though I do have spares for the bessa in my bag.

Im going to be around Northern California; San Francisco, the Davis area, San Bruno, might take a roadtrip to Santa Barbera with friends, who knows. Not a tropical get away, but its still about 50 degrees warmer there at the moment!
