Camera and Coffee

felipe, how come the leica is the only cmaera blacked out?

joe

in short: I was annoyed and embarrased by and over some peoples/clients comments when using it..

To be precise, when they began lecturing me about how those dearly expensive antique really was the wrong camera to buy and which Canon/Nikon auto everything would be cheaper and much better for everything down to wiping your rear end.
Then there'd be the other half, who would want to contemplate about what a fine piece of equipment those leicas were and how expensive they are, like only an elite circle of people could afford a Leica..
In some cases you can probably use that sort of gear talk as an icebreaker, but as I said I found it highly embarrassing and annoying.

Once I had it taped, the only person who still wanted to fondle it is was my girlfriend ("can I hold it?")
Using it in public, people either don't seem to take it for a camera or they don't consider me a "threat" in general with my 70s tweedcoat - pick one 🙂

OTOH, using the horizon feels like being a salesman, people walk up to me and ask what I am doing with this - what is this?.. though I haven't yet tried taping it. (maybe I should glue on a wood pannellin, paint it red and act like a mailbox.)

The mamiya never got any compliments, could be because of it's dark "menacing" overly professional look 😉

cheers,
phil

i see.

when i had the mamiyas (2x6) it was funny the reaction i often got. when stalking bus stops people would ask what was i doing? did i work for a magazine or something?
now with the canons not a soul has stopped me on the street. i like that.

Perhaps it's a Canon thing -- no one asks about my camera, either 😀

Hi Natalia, Hi Felipe, Hi Joe

In sequence

Natalia, I have shots up all are w the Mamiya 6 , I just don't know how to use Photo shop yet!
Felipe, anyone that has a Mamiya 6 and has to throw a flaming espresso machine out a window is my kind of person!
Joe, why are you and Felipe leaving the ship (selling an M6 RF) as I come aboard. Something I said?

BTW check my new thread on "Equipment Obsession is it a bad thing?" I think it should be fun in the long run.

i sold all my medium format gear.
it was a catharsis that needed to happen.
long story short, i had stopped shooting and needed a creative kick in the ,er, pants.
my plan was to get one camera and one lens and one film and concentrate on photography projects.
well, the best laid plans...yada yada...

i got what i needed even though i have way more gear than i planned.
i scrapped my boring webpage that had no new photos and started a gallery here and now my own blog too. it's all new stuff and i even bought a small digital.

selling gear to move on? no regrets & no looking back!

I was stuck in the woods once, don't let the smooth curving contours of an EOS fool you.

That being said.... I have red dot issues too. The first accessory I plan on seeking out when I get a Leica will be a black logo dot. Rumor has it that you can get them from Leica USA if you ask nicely. I will let you know.

Gotta do this before they're all sold! 🙂

(the Bessa+Ultron, the 15/4.5 and the Mamiya 6+75mm are searching for a new home if anyone is interested)

Hey Felipe... how much are you looking for the Bessa+Ultron? and the Mamiya?
Probably can't afford either, but hey... 😀

Meet the Hexars

Meet the Hexars

The Hexar RF Limited has already been "camera and coffeed" but I thought it would be nice to post a family portrait with its older brother, my recently acquired Hexar Classic.
